Poor Striking Toggerists

Read that last night and this is the comment that angered me greatly.

'I’m not having it, we may as well strike.' Some said: 'what’s the point? Yes I’m a millionaire but I don’t even have time to spend the money'.

I will start by saying, I agree that there is a saturation of football. My argument would be coming from the watching, too much of it just waters down the product and makes it less appealing.

From a player point of view, I get the mental health aspect. If you are constantly travelling around the country/world, then it can take its toll. Potentially being away from the family for long periods of time, etc. is a personal thing and I could understand that particular angle of attack on the amount of games. Bringing up not being able to spend the millions is an absolute disgrace.

I get the aspect of having no time to spend with family and being either on the training pitch or traveling all the time - football's changed from how it was 20-30 years ago, both with being considered a "product" now and because of the physical rigours and the spotlights that are brought to players from an early age - this is an understandable complaint in reality.

Bringing money into it is absolutely out of touch however - even more so when the players complaining the most (it seems) aren't the lower league players who play even more games, or the ones in the lesser leagues who both play more and receive a pittance compared to the complainers here, it's the big league players on a massive wedge.

Reminds me of the NBA bubble during COVID, when some basketball players complained about not being able to go party and spend their money or whatever when people were dying, and they were living in luxury. This comment from Steven Adams sums it up:

This, in bucketloads.

Could kinda agree if it was the lower league players, up and down motorways for hours on end for games, stays in hotels (probably bog standard for those lucky enough to get one) time away from family etc, but to hear those at the pinnacle of the game whine like spoilt brats just pisses me off.

They'd soon pipe down if they're told there'll be no wages if they strike

There is to much football!

Instead of over playing and over working the elite at the top of the game (You can't just eat money and that automatically makes you not fatigued). Why don't they filter the money down and up play other competitions/tournaments, spread the wealth, spread the workload!

Same, they're traveling even the smallest distances via private jets and chauffeurs and are still cryarsing fgs

I've played in the lower leagues here ages ago and it's horrid to have to travel for a full day there and back in a crappy small bus or whatever full of people - that I'd get, it's time away from your life spent on the road for next to nothing (or in some cases nothing but a meal after the game), it's not good for you physically or mentally. Can't imagine how it would be if you're playing in L2 and have to go from south to north or vice versa for a single game, then having to play again a day and a half after it somewhere else too ffs

So what's stopping him from packing in now and enjoying the rest of his life?
Yes . . . GREED

These top teams are so tired at the end of the season that Spurs, Newcastle, Roma and AC Milan all flew halfway round the world to play a friendly

Didnt know the players decided the pre or post season fixtures & locations

For all their wealth and leisure, many former pro athletes also spend the rest of their lives as people who hurt a lot all the time.

They could have garnered some sympathy talking about, there are too many sanctioned competitions, we never have an off season, it's not like the old days where you weren't running 15 miles a game and you went to the changing room at half time and had a cig and a Carling, we're constantly working out or in training or recovering from injuries, we need time to recharge physically and mentally and go lay on a beach. But no they went straight to money.
