That guy has his house like that all the time. Its not an attention seeking thing that lasts for the duration of the appeal then gets forgotten for a year. Its fair enough to knock the idiots who do stuff like that once a year purely for the attention and then forget about the subject but this guy is obviously very passionate about it.
I mean, I know you're trying to defend him, but that really just makes him sound even more mental.

Meh. If he's mental then whatever. So long as he's not harming anyone I don't see what the problem is. Loads of people think that being as arsed as everyone (myself obviously included) on here is about a team full of multi-millionaires playing football is as mental as you can get.

We as a society spend far to much time worrying about other people, what they do and what makes them happy ect. Wear the poppy. Don't wear the poppy. Buy all the garish decorations you want. Or totally ignore them. Just get on with your life and leave others to do the same. Unless someone's behaviour is having a negative impact on your life what does it even matter?

Are we not allowed to wear poppies now? Have the wokes cancelled them? Is it offensive to remember war heroes who died for their country?

I wear my poppy every year with pride, and in remembrance to an uncle who helped liberate Bergan-Belsen in April 1945.

Sadly, and I think this is the gist of this thread, it has now become a case of 'one-upmanship' and tasteless tat merchandise.

Despite this, I will buy and proudly wear one every year (discarding it after remembrance Sunday ends)

The middle class left despise any perceived manifestation of patriotism, and they find traditional working class exhibitions of this as embarrassing.

Yes, disgraceful. And from January 2023, repeats of classic shows like Blackadder and Fawlty Towers can only be shown if they're dubbed into Albanian with Somali subtitles.

Nothing against anyone who wants to wear a poppy

I just tend to donate the money these days and don't wear the poppy itself

I think it's become an overly politicised symbol and the original ideal behind it has been cheapened as consequence, and as a result I don't really feel comfortable wearing one anymore
Similar here.

I donate money every year but not bothered about pinning a cheap bit of crap to myself to tell other people I have done it. Bought a nice AVI-8 watch last year that was remembrance themed, and part of their proceeds went to the RBL. I'll just wear that.
