As discussed here, we've today started trialling a new post rate system.

Previously members could 'Like' a post. Now, they can 'Like' or 'Dislike' ('KOF') a post. Those who have been posting for a while will remember it being similar to the rep system, but without the ability to comment.

The developers reckon it;

  • Increases daily posts.
  • Improves signal to noise ratio; less short/unnecessary posts
  • Improves quality of posts (posters want to avoid negative ratings)
  • Makes lurkers useful for something and gives them a means of interaction
And, it can help self moderate - there's a setting that allows 'x' amount of dislikes to place a post in a moderation queue.

We'll be tweaking the system over the next week or two to see if it can work. Be mindful that if we notice people taking the piss with it (targeting members etc) then we'll revoke access and it'll be a mark in the against category for the feature...

I don't know if you're familiar with how reading works, but see I can read things right now you wrote hours, even days ago. These things don't pass into the ether like the dying embers of a flame. So you may be getting "fresh" likes for what you've written, or someone may be just now reading something you've written and are able to appreciate it anew, even though it's old to you. Take a break from GOT and when you come back, you'll have so much likes you will be overjoyed.

After a couple of hours I have the following feedback

Three good things :-

  1. The list of "Most disliked members" is ace. It'll be interesting to see if the new, mature @Prevenger17 copes with the noteriety or asks for a ban
  2. Being able to go into a politics thread and causing wordy posters to fume by quietly telling them to koff will give me endless pleasure
  3. Only allowing forum supporters to do this is a nice touch and reinforces the Supporters Clique position.
Two bad things :-
  1. Not being able to include a short pithy comment makes me nostalgic
  2. I can't "Koff" a profile post ( this is plainly an oversight which will be addressed soon )

Overall though, a job well done. Nice one @roydo.
