Match Thread POSTPONED: Everton v Manchester City - Preview only

I know it is difficult for some to understand, especially if you're not a City supporter, but there is a perception that City from the fans that the club are seen differently than everyone else.

We're "more likely" to:

- Cheat (although go ask Liverpool about when they hacked our scouting network after they hired some of our scouts)

- Pay off someone to do get away with "a crime" (That was even implied with the CAS ruling on the CL ban)

- Attempt something morally or ethically wrong because of our owner.

These feelings are embedded in City fans' thinking for the near future, so when we see statements by other clubs wishing players and families good health in a "similar" situation as we just had, and then see Everton post what they did and offer no well wishes to City players, etc. it caused a massive uproar of, "Here we go again!".
It’s not just your club, every single club believes there’s a negative media perception towards them (Yes, even the RS).

I don’t have any gripe with City over the game being pulled, and I also can’t get my head around what beef your fans have with Everton for their statement?

Was chuffed to bits when Yaya threw a tantrum over me back then. Memories....

I jest, of course, but actually do appreciate some of what you say even as a cry baby, obtuse minded City supporter foolish enough to come back here (with good intentions).

I also think it was the correct, and safety first minded decision (including for your players, staff and others in the community) to postpone the game given the risk of further spread that could have happened.

However, I also want to say again I completely see why your fans and club were upset over the way it was all communicated/decided by the PL and get why guidelines needed to be clearer to everyone to prevent what's happening now between our supporters, etc. which is depressing and taking away from the enjoyment of football.

The PL needed to do a better job of planning for and handling this type of situation as how it could not have been foreseen given the fixture congestion + COVID's state in the UK is beyond me and why I can see the reason for further frustration.

Now, do I again think the public statement by Everton was the BEST way to go about handling this? I think that question is not just asked by City supporters, as a United fan who writes in the Athletic about City posted this after the statement was published:

Can one see how it implies an aura of automatic suspicion of City as misleading the PL in some way or being complicit with the PL? Here's tbf a City fan/journalists recent post:

Thoughts on this?

Would genuinely appreciate responses that don't involve attempts at mockery, telling me to bugger off, questioning why I'm here, where I'm from, am I a real fan, etc. if that's at all possible. Hope it is.

Cheers and HNY.

Mate I won’t lie I thought the Yaya thing was hilarious at the time and how it was joked about for every birthday afterwards haha

yeah the joke was almost all of our fans were actually happy with the postponement because our squad was goosed after playing a stupid amount of games and injuries not letting us rotate. Of course, the safety reasons speak for themselves - can’t risk infection.

I guess our ire came from a group of supporters attacking the club for simply asking for some clarification. 2000 fans were en route at the time of cancellation and it was a massive surprise (I guess considering that the players themselves were confirmed on Christmas Day and it was known days before the match, new cases, I accept would be later). On our side, it pretty much ALL boils down to being left totally out of the conversation, not because we have a god given right but because ultimately, it effects us massively too. Going straight to the league and leaving the other team out the conversation completely naturally leads to some questions. Our statement may not fluff its words but I don’t really think the club were asking for too much to simply ask for some clarity. We need to hold other teams accountable with these cases just so it doesn’t potentially get ‘abused’ (ie a team having injuries and wanting to wait a week to recover). Might be cynical but it prevents the can of worms exploding
Yeah HNY mate :)

Ofcourse the mirror will pile in here, why don't they get that Everton arnt complaining about the game being called off because of covid but because the PL didn't inform us of what was happening, even though we was hosting the game and had 2000 fans ready to come

What a total, biased piece of dog crap. Anti Everton/Utd from a rs hate filled rag journo.

Took this load of B/S from sky sports, to me shows game should have been played.

What is the criteria for a postponement?

The Premier League Board ultimately decides whether matches can or can't be postponed. While there aren't hard and fast rules - each game is judged on a case-by-case basis - there are some guidelines.

For instance, in the 2020/21 Premier League handbook, clubs have been told "permission will not be granted to postpone a league match where the applicant club has 14 or more players listed on its squad list available."

Teams were permitted earlier this season to name 25 players in their Premier League squad list - and that doesn't include registered U21 players.

Man City, for example, according to the Premier League website, named 20 players in their Premier League squad list. They currently have Ilkay Gundogan and Eric Garcia injured, with Walker and Jesus positive with coronavirus. That takes their Premier League squad list down to 16 - but doesn't account for any subsequent positive cases they may have found out about on Monday.

However, City may not even have had to drop below that 14-player level for their match with Everton to be postponed. The Premier League Board have said they took medical advice into consideration when deciding to call off that fixture, and there may have been other factors affecting their decision.

However, what we do know is that the Premier League Board only rearrange games in "exceptional circumstances".

Twitter account purporting to be Elton Wellsby is stating the Walker story is true...

Dunn in being a bellend shock, no surprise is it, we are looking good under the Don, above 3 of the media favourites and they don’t like it one bit

This Walker party stuff has injunction all over it.

Him, City, PL, no idea, but someone is keeping it off MSM. Cos by now, if it is untrue, said bodies would have said so, NYE or no NYE.

Spot on - Shittehs lawyers have been all over this since they begged the pl for the cancellation, probably before then!

As I've said, I smell an oil soaked rat involved in the whole thing.
