Whatever we all think of it, it's a massive story around the world. There's going to be 100,000s, if not millions, heading to Edinburgh, London and the royal estates etc. So policing is going to play a part too (they've sadly cancelled the Tour of Britain cycling now, citing police reasons).

So logistics will play a part, and a big one is PR. Clubs/PL/football (which is always an easy target for the media) would get grief if they go ahead with the games, and as always it's the fans that lose out, but like I said earlier, they know we'll be back.
Yeah I was thinking about the police earlier as well. There will be hundreds of thousands coming to London every day till the funeral. Even a smaller event like the test at the Oval would need policing but the resources that will be needed to arrange the funeral etc will be enormous. I just dont see any big sporting events for the next week or so and logistics are part of it.

What d'you mean?

IMO, the cost of living crisis, the ongoing war in Ukraine, global warming etc are all much bigger priorities.

I also recognise that the world's longest-serving monarch dying is a huge story too. In the grand scheme of things, it's a 96-year-old woman popping her clogs. In societal terms, it's a huge story around the world.

Yup and for the foreseeable you'll be told how such concerns are petty and selfish in light of this tragedy by the media.

Well the football wasn't cancelled when George died I don't think, but nobody is doing any accurate reporting by what I can tell as there's loads citing different sources. Sure that will be cleared up soon.

I don't know if you read my post fully but what I'm saying is the fact that there's even discussion over whether the rules have to be 'STRICTLY' adhered to shows that times have moved on. And they aren't rules as such, it's just the plan of what would happen.

If the plan had been strictly adhered to, the games in the UK tonight wouldn't have happened. They went ahead after discussions between the gov, FA and UEFA.

You’re probably right mate, I clearly skim read your post. Apologies.

I think I’ll save that reading for the morning. Starting to go cross-eyed already, evidently!!

Purely as it's the media age, as far as monarchs go she's not even the best/most important Elizabeth
I mean it's a bit weird to be ranking monarchs in all honesty but she's all millions of people have known as one isn't she. She's done it for 70 years and, whether or not you like the royal family, hate them or - like me - you're pretty ambivalent to them, it's one of those things that's weird to happen even though it's totally expected. Like she was a 96-year-old, she was going to go soon enough, but it's still weird. And hence, it's a huge story.

The main things for events getting cancelled will be the 'respect' thing (which I agree, is daft) and logistics.

Nah no worries, just mean it's an interesting read (generally speaking anyway).

I think they'll get the balance right ultimately, but it may mean we lose a weekend of sport, which is crap.

Problem is the funeral will be the second weekend, so it'll almost definitely be two weekends of it

Thats a close call in fairness. The 2 Elizabeths and Queen Victoria were probably the most influential monarchs in British history

I think our Queen was a credit to the country. She will be a big loss
Elizabeth the first I'll give you is, the other two not even remotely close to being anything but 'famous' monarchs mainly due to length of reign but nothing else.

Elizabeth first established s the empire, the other two where constitutional monarchs in essence one gradually forced into that role the other born into it
