Usually it takes a month or two to appoint a new Supreme Court Justice, so why is everyone acting like the next president will be nominating? Will the House Republicans knuckle down and try and fudge up the process?

If they don't, there will be Republicans finding well-funded primary opponents when they go back to their districts. You have a solid GOP congress, Senate and House, and they will block any replacement Obama would propose until we get a new President.

Not really; Scalia was theirs anyway so his replacement by another one won't really do much to change anything.

Neither can I but that would mean almost a year of a 4-4 court provided all the other justices remain healthy (not a certainty given their ages).
