Those living in America, does Trump have an actual chance of going into the White House? The American people I know are all for Bernie Sanders (mind they're from Seattle), yet here the only person we hear about is Trump.

Just curious to whether there is a general fear that he could be elected. Not sure I trust the bookies with this one.

Don't trust the bookies, but yes it seems he's got a legitimate chance. From a certain perspective, this is the most exciting Presidential race in my lifetime.

Yes there is. Almost all non-candidate factors favor the Republicans this election, and Trump is very close to securing the nomination. Just like footie, you still have to play the game, but anybody who is laughing off Trump is playing with fire.

What the political class doesn't seem to realize is that the post Great Recession recovery has basically left all non-college educated people out in the cold. It still sucks out there in large parts of the country, especially if you're a low end factory or service industry worker, and that's how Sanders and Trump have came to be. If those people get ignored for another 4 years in a Clinton presidency, it could get ugly.

Bad news for those hoping for Bloomberg to jump in

But when I look at the data, it’s clear to me that if I entered the race, I could not win. I believe I could win a number of diverse states -- but not enough to win the 270 Electoral College votes necessary to win the presidency.

In a three-way race, it’s unlikely any candidate would win a majority of electoral votes, and then the power to choose the president would be taken out of the hands of the American people and thrown to Congress. The fact is, even if I were to receive the most popular votes and the most electoral votes, victory would be highly unlikely, because most members of Congress would vote for their party’s nominee. Party loyalists in Congress -- not the American people or the Electoral College -- would determine the next president.

As the race stands now, with Republicans in charge of both Houses, there is a good chance that my candidacy could lead to the election of Donald Trump or Senator Ted Cruz. That is not a risk I can take in good conscience.

I'm crushed. Now I need back someone that is not going to make this country implode. Or just piss away my vote.

You would get my vote, if I was American.

Some make a convincing case that it is not only possible, but likely.

Obviously I'm going to disagree with every bit of policy in that article, but I do agree with the general premise about the system being broken and in need of a major shakeup.

As has been mentioned more nihilisticly earlier this article, our system of governance has gotten broken and stale, and we're in need of a Progressive era type reform package or a movement to a more parliamentary style system.
