People aren't choosing between Clinton or trump at the moment. I'm not sure you're getting how serious this is. Over the past few weeks the joking (that saw him get 27 votes here) has dried up as a far more sinister story unfolds. The man is a racist demagogue who will set this country back years just by getting the nomination, never mind the presidency.
Let's all calm down now.

I think there's a genuine lack of strong candidates, primarily on the Republican side but also the Democrats to some extent.
Rubio et al. provide no sense of authority, or driving leadership that I believe is required to win an election, unlike previous presidents.
Scarily Trump may well get the nod, mainly due to his populist stance and mastering the political waffle of saying something yet nothing at all.
He gives people who are disenfranchised the feeling they have a voice. Again don't think he's the man to lead.
From the Democrats, Hillary is a walking talking slogan spouting focus group machine, she has the Clinton and establishment behind her which makes any genuine competition tough.
She says what people want to hear, and will probably pull through due to the woman's, African American and Hispanic vote that her gender and husband brings.
However my favourite candidate and the one who seems to have the most authority and make the most sense is Bernie, he's probably a little old and will struggle to get the nomination due to those supervotes which stand with Clinton as the establishment choice.
He does seem to be getting strong grassroots support though, and would be my choice as next POTUS.
It's disgusting the gerrymander and entitlement benefits he is competing against that will never let him win the nomination..even if he deserved it.

Agreed, the American political system is fundamentally flawed, in my eyes at least.
Our system, whilst smaller works far more effectively in providing democratic rule.

Core to the pollution and corruption of the American system is the deadset polarisation of political entities to the far right and left.
The true political spectrum of the country is under/not represented, there's no centrist party or ability to vote for one.
America would be best served with the split and break of both the Republican and Democratic parties into smaller entities that could combine to form majority governments.
Would probably lead to more moderate and long term decision making rather than the spiteful to and fro where any reform changes are blocked at every and any attempt and the polar opposite brought though the legislative houses in the next government term.

America, much like Everton under Kenwright ownership has fallen into a position of stagnation, there is no progress or cohesive move forward as the world moves forward.
In order for them to progress, radical political change and strong leadership needs to occur, else we'll see a collapse reminiscent to the Western Roman Empire in a generation or two IMO.

We currently have the oldest constitution still in use and it shows.

As is becoming clear to the rest of the world this election, if we had a parliamentary style system with proportional representation the Democratic party would probably split in half and the Republican party would probably split in three overnight, while the Greens and Libertarians would also become forces instead of just punchlines.

They'd still have to work together to get things done, but I think it'd produce a much more positive system, instead of the current two party system which has turned into nothing but a zero sum game.

What happened to that female half Chinese half Jewish multi pilot that was on here? I bet she was a Trumper.
I'm here, just don't have as much time to post anymore. I hate Trump. I'd vote for most other candidates before Trump. I was most in line with Bloomberg but he is not an option, so I'm between Clinton (I think is untrustworthy) and Sanders (Cannot deliver on anything he promises). Kasich would not be bad but he has a snowball'ys chance in Hell. I would need to research him more if he had a chance.
