Premature evaluation

I've noticed a trend, arguably intensifying, amongst the good posters of GOT to rapidly evaluate new players.

Recent examples that come to mind are Mykolenko, Onana and McNeil. The example of one Alex Iwobi, written off by many (myself included), is perhaps a lesson to us that players can come good.

So, friends, are we too knee jerk? Should we be more generous in allowing players time to bed in, find form or develop?

Myko looks horrific and im gonna need more from Iwobi than running.

Iwobi certainly wasn't knee-jerk, he was abysmal for around 85 appearances over 2 and a half years. Only since Lampard came in has he been anything other than horrific.

Yes. Everybody should just shut up and watch.

Granted there would be less ro read on here- but there are too many wanting to sound clever and insightful when really they're as clueless as a tory mp trying to sound like a man of the people.

Yep, nobody got Iwobi wrong, he was literal dog muck for 2 and a half years.
I for one feel he needed love and patience. Which St Francois has provided, clearly on advice from Large Iguana.

Set Iwobi aside, there is a pattern. I forgot to include Patterson too. Although I think Dave has single handedly brought him time with his antics.

Definitely knee-jerk to suggest Iwobi has come good on the evidence of, what, less than half a season when the evidence of a far greater body of matches over multiple seasons suggests he is hugely ordinary.

The problem at Everton isn't knee-jerk slating of players or managers. It's hilariously inflated hype (Gordon, "Super Frank", etc.) that deserves the backlash it invariably receives.

That is indeed the other side of the coin. Its not seperate.

Other than Iwobi (who's now played 99 bloody times for us), I think it's the same for every club because of social media and the ease to have an opinion.

It goes the other way too though with 'starboy' as an example FFS. Far too hyped far too quickly
