I think 55 is a lot and devastating if you are one of them.
In truth, one death is devastating. That's not really up for debate. However, the return of football / opening of society cannot reasonably wait for the daily 'count' to be zero. I haven't got a magic number of deaths that is acceptable for football to return but it does have to come back at some point. I am certain COVID deaths will stiull be a thing as next season begins. Sad but true.

I'm not sure debates around 'seasonal average' death rate is really relevant. I'm sure road traffic accidents, for instance, are well down. The pandemic-related deaths are the key barometer that we all have to measure and keep an eye on. It appears the peak is well past in terms of where we were a month or so ago - it was getting on for around 1000 deaths a day.

Yeah, the seasonal average is irrelevant, every contributing factor is different like you say, so no comparisons can be made.

I don't think it ever got near 1,000 deaths a day though, was approx 600 the most it's been?

It was up to 800+ in early April. Not quite 1000 at the peak but the curve is going downwards since then.

Where's this total of 300 people from? Why are they letting so many people in for a match? Only need players, a couple of coaches, a few officials, security and a couple of camera crew.

Dunno bout you, but I feel a lot better about the restart, since the wonderful premier league announced that there will be a minute's silence before the first round of games, as a mark of respect for all the poor souls lost to covid-19. That's just what the country, and the families of those we've lost need isn't it, along with the footy back of course, as the media keep telling us we all need the huge morale boost from that.

I dunno what all the fuss was about. Even better, all the teams will have little heart badges on their kits, as a thank you to the NHS.

Brilliant! I'm sure that little badge will really help the NHS and all front line staff, especially if there are any gatherings of "customers" or fans, at any games, and the inevitable increase in infection and admissions to hospitals.....

Can't believe that nobody has yet invented an 'irony font'

Public gatherings especially at this time of year aren't that dangerous though, especially if social distancing is followed. Covid-19 is transmitted far more easily in confined spaces.

Public gatherings are very dangerous and have been widely condemned. Those needlessly calling for them are murderers, and hopefully when the enquiry comes will face manslaughter charges.

The seasonal average data is much much worse than the government data. It shows over 60,000 people have died.

Your levels of hyperbole know no bounds. Make your mind up is your knee-jerk reaction murder or manslaughter. Please stop making dangerous comments. Being outside at a beach, in a park or out on the street is safe AS LONG AS you follow social distancing and follow good hygiene practices.

The dangerous part is people like you spreading disinformation. COVID-19 spreads far more easily in confined spaces. All the research which is actual information and not your hyperbole shows that the vast majority of COVID-19 transmission occurs in closed, crowded places that involve contact with an infected person.

Your delusions regarding the other lot and their imminent demise that you have been proven wrong time and time again are pretty sad but harmless enough. However, spouting completely inaccurate and positively dangerous advice during a pandemic is reckless. To risk peoples lives to score cheap points against a sporting rival during a pandemic is beneath contempt.

People should be avoiding crowded, closed areas not public open spaces. Why do you think the scientists are telling people to avoid public transport but encouraging them to go outside for exercise. Why do you think there is an imminent requirement to wear a face covering on public transport but no requirement when you are out in the open.

The right wing media from the start have been peddling the idea that ordinary people have been reckless. Taking low angle pictures of people in open spaces that makes it appear that people are closer together than they are. That is just to give this appalling government an out when it comes to a future public inquiry. Please do not re-enforce that falsehood. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being in an open space as long as you follow social distancing rules and follow good hygiene practices. If the other lot do not do that then rightly criticize them, I will join in with you.
