I'd love for them to show where these 7 cameras that are obstructed are meant to be. There literally are 2 people right there. How is that any different than any other goal line scramble? Oh wait, those usually have MORE people than those 2.

Sound, the cameras missed it.

But how the hell did the VAR fella see the replays and NOT over rule the cameras.

The cameras are in the stands and the system is based on error proofing. They use high speed cameras, but they need the data from a number of cameras to have any form of accuracy. The centralised computer processes the images and then triangulates the position of the ball.

The issues are twofold the whole of the ball has to cross the line and modern balls compress on impact. So my guess would be that the algorithm they use is looking for daylight between the ball and goal line on numerous cameras.

What made this situation unusual is that the keeper had his hands on the ball, the post would have obscured cameras on that side and the villa defenders head obscures the view from above and his shirt obscures the view from the side away from the post.

VAR ideally should have overruled and awarded the goal, but I am not sure that is part of their remit.

Hi mate, perhaps it was like the VAR cameras at Anfield last season when they failed to see 2 stamps from the two best full backs to ever play the game and a penalty decision against the best centre half in living memory. Perhaps they just couldn't see it ya know.

Hawkeye does not have human input. It works through high speed cameras capturing images that are processed by computers.

That is a TV camera, and I am not sure it actually shows definitively that the whole of the ball has crossed the line. Obviously other angles clearly show that the ball crossed the line.

Just to confirm, are you saying that image isn't showing the whole of the ball over the line..... even though in the image you can clearly see the whole of the ball over the line.

It'll be interesting to see how the fixtures for next season will pan out. Clearly we won't have fans in the grounds for some time. Most likely not until next year. So there might well be a situation where the first half of the season is played behind closed doors. How on earth can this be done fairly?

It won't be. Case in point being this season

Think we will have fans in october/november myself, but only say 25% and then it will go up how many can turn up

it can't be done fairly, but the other alternative is no football until fans come back. Project Restart has shown this wont happen, I would guess they will look at 18 behind closed doors and 18 with fans as best / fairest scenario, but obviously not ideal & they will be itching to get fans in from first day they can, increasing revenue & "the product" on TV

When you blow the image up I think from that camera angle you cannot be sure that the ball is indeed completely over the line. sheff.webp

The camera is not exactly in line with the posts and there is too much pixelation. You cannot see the full sphere of the ball and cannot be sure if that is because of a shadow or the Villa players shirt.

As I said the other angle which shows the keeper with the ball behind the post is conclusive.
