Proposed changes to the Premier league

Actually went on a bit of a lurk in Red Cafe and RAWK just to see their perspective and quite a fair few of their posters seemed to be equally disgusted with the more power grab parts of the proposal

They know. It's ridiculous.

What i was surprised by, was the amount who were in favour of swerving League Cup and Community Shield for a lucrative pre-season. It's quite a sad perspective for how football has gone really. Silverware isn't a priority, but a couple of quid from playing a Thai XI is far more important.

Can’t understand the need to scrap the shield at all - it’s one game!?!
Interestingly enough, the United forums seemed more supportive of the proposals than the RS

Was thinking of the league cup today. They should figure out a way to do it during international breaks & teams just have to deal without their internationals. It effectively handicaps the biggest teams and would make for great TV.

Corrected.

“The proposals also rewrite the Premier League’s 20-club democracy in favour of placing huge power in the hands of the nine clubs with the longest continual stay in the division. As things stand that is the big six, as well as Man United, Southampton and West Ham. Those nine clubs afforded “long-term shareholder status” would have unprecedented power, with the votes of just six of them required to make sweeping changes. These clubs would even be able to veto a new owner taking over a rival club.....”
I'm guessing the Southampton and West ham shouts are joke?

FWIW Saints fans down here on the south coast see it for what it is, and how it would screw their club pretty quick.
Sadly they are also aware that the current owner will likely vote for it, as it may add just a little value as he frantically tries to sell the club.

I think the grandiose 6 have picked their allies/victims carefully, with no regard that Newcastle and Villa have superior records in the Prem to the likes of Soton and WHU.

And you just know those top six, will vote for more money for themselves and the other " big three, Everton, West Ham and Southampton" will have no say in the matter as you know it only needs 6 of the 9 teams to make the decisions that matter. If the other three us and whoever vote for that it will be akin to a Turkey voting for Christmas.

My fear here is that we, West-ham and Southampton will have given their blessing behind closed doors to at least kite this idea.

Given the owners of West Ham being money grabbing Jarg heads, and the fact that Southampton were out of the top flight for 8-years, yet Villa have missed 2, but aren't included says to me that something must be reasoning for all 3 to be the "chosen" ones.

Problem is if these proposals are rejected or significantly changed then LFC and Utd will just go and form a European Super League and no one can stop them.

Let's be honest no one will be interested in what's left of an English, Spanish, German or Italian league without their 'Super clubs' and ALL the TV money and major sponsorships would float off to that European Super League. The English league will be like the Championship is now...pointless.
