Proposed changes to the Premier league

i agree witheverything you say about carve up / greed and closed shop, but I don’t think it’s valid to compare an extra pre season game to the tempo and pressure of a PL game on bodies.

It won't be just one preseason game though will it?

They will be adding "tours" of a number of matches played abroad, that they will be charging the tellyclappers for, and also charging the countries that they will play in.

With the addition of the traveling to far flung reaches of the world to play these tours, I would suggest that these will be much worse on the players bodies than the, as you put it, "tempo and pressure" of the couple of extra pl games we have now!

The best thing is the "big six" in a season where literally anybody from about 10 teams could realistically win the league. Love how they just add Everton onto the end of the list, even though they are talking about teams who have been in the league the longest, and start the list with Liverpool lol. Get in the bin!
That there's no mention of Aston Villa is scandalous. Ditto Newcastle, Forest. Wednesday, Sunderland, Portsmouth, Huddersfield, Leeds. They're not all huge now but they have been and could be again. But never if these proposals go ahead. Never.

If Liverpool & Man Utd don’t wanna be in the league cup or don’t value it enough then why can’t they just opt out of playing in it and have all their trophies won void?

It's weird how this has become a thing when ten years ago you wouldn't include City in any 'Top six' and ten years before that you wouldn't include Chelsea and ten years before that you almost certainly would be including us and Villa.

But then that's why this proposal exists, because the Six know that they won't be a 'Top Six' forever.

The founding 11. The teams that were fundamental in creating football as we know it and in shaping the last 140 years.

Everton,
Aston Villa,
Stoke City,
Blackburn Rovers,
Preston North End,
Wolverhampton Wanderers,
Bolton Wanderers,
Burnley,
Notts County,
Derby County,
West Bromwich Albion

These teams (bar those visible in the Prem) would mean nothing to a yank or a glory hunters' stupid picture.

It's the throwing spurs in there that has made more irate about this.

Nothing club really in terms of what they've done in the league. Reckon they're massive all of a sudden because they finished 3rd and 4th a few times and rolled over for the RS in a final.

It will all come to nothing, the other clubs are not thick enough to sign their own death warrants.

Let them breakaway I say, that's the logical conclusion to all of this, the vaunted European Super-League. But wait, they don't want it.

As an aside, it's highly ironic and amusing to see Sky so prominent in the groundswell of opposition against this. Understandable of course, but I rather enjoy it nonetheless.

Yes indeed, who the hell do they think they are, and part of the group asking us to leave the room whilst the elite do their dirty business.

Looking at it from a sporting perspective, why do Liverpool and Utd think they should be calling the shots on this. Utd have been on a steady decline and should be and are in our direct eye line, Mordor, it’s only a few short seasons since we were finishing ahead of them under Moyes most seasons. They are at the peak of a cycle, but that is ebbing away with an aging squad and will return to the mean, of getting CL football in a good season.

They fear, City, Chelsea, us and any other regime that isn’t based on their method of not investing and fleecing fans. Covid has exposed them.

We’ve spent more seasons then both in the top flight and both have been relegated more recently then us. They are trying to inhabit a space that they don’t have the history, sustainability of future success or the right to inhabit as clubs.
You could have stopped after the first sentence.

Your last paragraph is absolutely nailed on. I note tomorrow's papers already starting to fuel the European Super League chat & that's stage 2 of these negotiations.

My concern is, if this is being "kited" now, I'm assuming the 9 are onboard (at least provisionally) or they would have dismissed it out of hand today. I sadly think this has legs and ultimately the proposers will get their was with a few concessions going back in return.

18 team league does make sense though!
Why?

From Sky:

Despite the fact that the plans would see their power over the running of the Premier League increase, the rest of the big-six clubs - Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham - are also understood to have reservations.
