Proposed changes to the Premier league

I know the argument is that if the so called 'big six' did walk away, then let them and just see how long before they come running back...a European super league isn't the answer etc, they need us as much as we need them etc

Consider this though, that perhaps they join with the EFL in a symbiotic working relationship, beneficial to both sides - with the EFL being heavily subsidised in return for arrangements with either fully fledged reserve teams and/or satellite or nursery clubs providing a testing ground for the big clubs younger developing players.

The revenue from any new European super league, and let's not kid ourselves, UEFA won't be interested in any teams from the remainder of the old premier league, the all new singing and dancing European Super league will only involve the really big names of European football. It needs the standout players playing for big teams with massive world wide followings to generate the huge commercial revenue envisaged. It will in effect mean the premier league of the future, once they've left being left with perhaps only possible entry to a second or even third tier competition, an infinitely less lucrative European competition, almost in place as an afterthought to honour any contractual arrangements

In the current European football climate with the successors to that master crook Michel Platini running things, aka his placemen, then I can see this sort of scenario being a real possibility, their threats to walk away may not be as empty or ridiculously improbable as all that.
Where would they go
EFL
Who makes way
When they win the league where do they go
Will the players want to play in Stoke on a wet and windy Wednesday night
They have no where to go
European league is a way off yet and will only take 4 max
4 English
3 Spanish
3 German
3 Italian
2 French
3 other randomers ,probably Holland ,Portugal Sweden

The supposed big 6 joining the EFL is nothing but the most hollow of hollow threats.

It’s utterly nonsensical and nothing but the brain fart of that Kopite plum Parry.

No I don't think joining is what's possible after all there is unlikely to be any promotion or relegation involving the big six, but rather a mutually beneficial relationship between the EFL and the big six, a contract of how each might help the other.

It's a Sky thing from a few years ago. Spurs finished in the top 4 for a while and are a London club, so they were included I guess.

If an Everton or a Villa do the same, it can become a Big 7, 8 etc. That's why they need to be able to veto takeovers such as Moshiris of Everton. It would be a monumental ballache for them all if we got into the top 4 this season, giving ourselves room to manoeuvre with FFP etc, spent our money well and stayed there, all while building a new stadium.

The more people there are demanding a piece of the same pie, the smaller each share gets. The smaller their share gets on every average year, the more outraged the likes of Liverpool and United become that they are the clubs driving the viewing figures with their international telly-clappers and - if these clubs don't get their way - the closer we get to either these owners getting fed up and selling up, or, probably more likely, a European Super League.
In all seriousness, why did this all come out after the window closed ?
We could / would have spent more given our start to the season with this knowledge.

Yes that's my thinking too although I would discount more minor leagues like Sweden and Holland tbh, it's all a bit vague but one thing is for sure...

I don't think joining the EFL as such is what's likely to be 'threatened' or rather I mean proposed lol, there is unlikely to be any promotion or relegation involving the big six, but rather a mutually beneficial relationship between the EFL and the big six, a contract of how each might help the other.

* European super leagues could easily accommodate all six from the big four nations of Spain, England, Germany and Italy plus two from France - you could make it up to 32 teams even - I would think a league structure possible with say 24 teams too - all vague but possible.

it's not though, a good few are PPV or a "top up" (eg CBS all access is €6) on top of your cable bill to watch your local team only.
This is again not true.

You can watch your local team for $0. CBS, NBC and FOX are still free broadcast channels that can be picked up with an antenna if you want to go that route. The only games not on those channels are Monday Night games, and I've never seen one not be picked up by the local channel to be shown on broadcast. Even if you want to go past that, which is fair as most people don't use antennas in 2020, almost everyone gets all their local games on every single cable package. It is actually harder to not watch the NFL than it is to watch it.

The only thing even resembling PPV is Sunday Ticket but that isn't even pay per view as much as it is pay for all the viewing because you get access to every single game with it. But if you live in the same city as your favorite team that isn't necessary at all.

The only football concept that has ever been remotely close to an NFL type system is the idea of a super league that is a proper round robin league. But even then if they leave a door open for teams to move in and out it starts to become fundamentally different. And in terms of TV rights making it PPV isn't the NFL at all.

But you are referring to in-market games only, im talking about out of market primarily. Anyway, I used it as an example of how sports tv rights are moving towards subscription / PPV models, at least in the view of the proposers of Project big idea, if NFL isn't the perfect example, my bad

Ok I understand and yes if you live out of market then you do have to pay to watch your team. But that is far less people than those the are in market. And beyond that you still get at least 4 and as many as 7 or 8 out of market games per week at very little cost.

You aren't the only one bringing the NFL into this thread and it just doesn't really fit at all in any real way so I figured I'd go into it a bit.

And they’re playing where exactly?

All 6 of them......

Getting a bit sick of this "big 6" nonsense. Spurs have won, what? one trophy in 20 years?

Unless, of course, "big" refers to turnover which tells us all we need to know about the future of football.
It used to be the Top 4, which were the 4 clubs that claimed the champions league places every year. Then Man City came along and finished top 4, then Spurs did the same. It was impossible for the media to consider talking about a top 4 without rs or utd, so then created the phrase big 6

Finally looks like Parry could be going.

Don’t ban me mods, but what a [Poor language removed] idiot. How dare he go behind everyone’s backs and back plans which he can’t agree to, as he has no scope?

It’s potentially ruining football and he’s reckoning he can just go ahead.

Premier League, you’ve got a pit of about £5bn, just give the money, and swerve Liverpool, the rats.

I can’t believe they threatened to break away. Idiots.
