Proposed changes to the Premier league

I know the argument is that if the so called 'big six' did walk away, then let them and just see how long before they come running back...a European super league isn't the answer etc, they need us as much as we need them etc

Consider this though, that perhaps they join with the EFL in a symbiotic working relationship, beneficial to both sides - with the EFL being heavily subsidised in return for arrangements with either fully fledged reserve teams and/or satellite or nursery clubs providing a testing ground for the big clubs younger developing players.

The revenue from any new European super league, and let's not kid ourselves, UEFA won't be interested in any teams from the remainder of the old premier league, the all new singing and dancing European Super league will only involve the really big names of European football. It needs the standout players playing for big teams with massive world wide followings to generate the huge commercial revenue envisaged. It will in effect mean the premier league of the future, once they've left being left with perhaps only possible entry to a second or even third tier competition, an infinitely less lucrative European competition, almost in place as an afterthought to honour any contractual arrangements

In the current European football climate with the successors to that master crook Michel Platini running things, aka his placemen, then I can see this sort of scenario being a real possibility, their threats to walk away may not be as empty or ridiculously improbable as all that.

As this plot begins to thicken, I firmly believe this is the plan....

1) Launch project big picture, safe in the knowledge that it would be widely ridiculed, especially in the PL. - DONE
2) Garner approval through desperation in the EFL - DONE
3) Lose Vote or have enough teams oppose the plan that a PL vote doesnt happen
4) Put pressure on the 11 - 15 remaining PL teams, who will let football die (Neil Ashton and co will be involved here)
5) Offer "big picture 2" a watered down version, offering more concessions, but certain veto rights (such as new owners)
6) Try to get that one over the line, with further pressure on the likes of Burnley, who will be blamed for killing football.

No idea if it will work, but really feel that is where they are going to try to go with it

This is really my thought on the whole thing and one I mentioned a earlier in the thread. The plan as it is, is not the plan they want. The one put out now is so out there and will obviously be voted down that what comes after will seem like a great compromise and a deal will be done eventually. The thing is. The compromise deal is the one that was wanted all along. Put out an horrendous plan, nobody will ever back. Then usher in what you actually want. Politics 101.

Not sure what the whole master plan is. Time will tell. I do honestly believe though it will end with a Netflix style subscription platform, with sky/bt pushed aside. Maybe Amazon will help them with this.

When did it become the Big six?

It's a Sky thing from a few years ago. Spurs finished in the top 4 for a while and are a London club, so they were included I guess.

If an Everton or a Villa do the same, it can become a Big 7, 8 etc. That's why they need to be able to veto takeovers such as Moshiris of Everton. It would be a monumental ballache for them all if we got into the top 4 this season, giving ourselves room to manoeuvre with FFP etc, spent our money well and stayed there, all while building a new stadium.

The more people there are demanding a piece of the same pie, the smaller each share gets. The smaller their share gets on every average year, the more outraged the likes of Liverpool and United become that they are the clubs driving the viewing figures with their international telly-clappers and - if these clubs don't get their way - the closer we get to either these owners getting fed up and selling up, or, probably more likely, a European Super League.

My gut feeling is it's all about the TV revenue. They (wrongly in most peoples eyes) feel they are entitled to a bigger piece of that pie & as technology moves towards PPV / Pay per club per season (as per NFL) they are trying to position themselves at the top of that queue along with some rights to VETO, I think they are desperate to avoid more Man City style investment (as are Man City). Other concessions such as reduced teams / Cups etc are the nice to have's and some they will get, some they wont

The supposed big 6 joining the EFL is nothing but the most hollow of hollow threats.

It’s utterly nonsensical and nothing but the brain fart of that Kopite plum Parry.

This is not how the NFL works.

not sure of your point here, NFL drives majority of subscriptions based on localised subscriptions (game pass or cable) showing you the game relevant to your local area. ie - patriots in Boston and so on

interesting side note, if a team are struggling to sell stadium tickets fans can’t buy PPVuntil sales reach a certain %

Categorizing cable as a paid NFL subscription is a major stretch.
