The English media before the French game were focussing on Mbappe and maybe Griezmann, as if the rest of the team are luggage. But they are all better at what they do than their English counterparts.

I said loads of times how hyped up that English team was and that they would be knocked over by the French easily enough.

Every French footie journo I have heard today have accepted they were lucky. And England were the better team for 70 minutes.

But thats knock out football. Happens. As for hype, other than the red top bellends, not seen much. More that the England team has talent, but its England.

That's not an appraisal of that game that I recognise.

Even the English pundits accepted at HT that France had easy the better of the first half. I scored the second half even stevens. England dominated the early stages but failed to kick on. France did their best work all tournament by stopping an English charge after that equaliser and gradually got on top of England again.

I think it's just a consolation to be told England dominated. Never in a million years was that the case for me.

Fine. Dont really care what your appraisal was. Put it this way then, two really good teams, stuffed with quality, and one got the break. Dont buy the ref stuff, but imo opinion, France were there to be taken, but a pen, and the manager........

Not for me.

Did we really need 2 defensive midfielders? Henderson was a waste of space last night! Did absolutely nothing anywhere on the pitch...
Don't agree. Not a fan of the lad and it's perfectly reasonable to suggest that Phillips could have done the same job while offering more precision in passing. However, I think Southgate actually got the tactics perfect last night and Henderson was a key part of that, operating as an auxiliary wing back a lot of the time in support of Saka (who most people agree was one of our best players if not the best). This meant that Walker could concentrate on Mbappe. Also with support from Henderson.
Thought he did a hell of a lot of good work

But for everyone else, that’ll do.

France looked unruffled all game. Even when they were pegged back.

They're teak tough.

The only team in this tournament as tough are the one's they'll likely play in the final - Argentina.

No chance of England beating a team of that calibre when it matters.

I said very early on in this tournament that I thought England under Southgate peaked at the last Euros. They engine room was purring and they had players real quality down the flanks. They were very unlucky against Italy.

That’s my view as well. We excelled at passing backwards in the first half and did sod all in front of goal. Second half we were better. France scored two goals, we scored one penalty. For the life of me I still cannot understand how a professional footballer cannot kick a ball into the area occupied by the goalposts and crossbar. Meanwhile Alan Ball’s WC medal and shirt sold for less than Kane’s watch…says it all really….

England’s performance against Italy was completely cowardly and that was the fault of Southgate. Italy were not a good side which has been proven by their failure to qualify for the World Cup, and we retreated into our own penalty area from the 2nd minute of the game. That performance last night was nothing like it. England were a ballooned penalty away from taking a team better than them in every department to extra time, and it would’ve been deserved. That’s major progress from that dismal Italy game.

Oh god.

@davek vs @LinekersLegs

And we did not score a single goal in open play in 98 minutes! Were Southgate's tactics to win by penalties in those 98 minutes?

You've got to be joking with your post!

To see Stones and Maguire WALKING forward, or standing still, with the ball and then passing sideways beggared belief. No urgency whatsoever, both when we were level and behind. davek's appraisal was spot on.

Another World Cup

Another round of nothing but obnoxious talk from the English.

I like this new trick you added in where you say you actually have the better team. You say you're proud of the team, and thought they played better than France

lmfao

Win a trophy, because you are going to the point where the losing is seriously affecting some of your lots ability to analyze what they are seeing.

Like most of the reaction on the tele was people in english accents just sounding incredibly stupid, but I guess that's par for the course, most of you should be used to that.
