Quentin Tarantino "Current movie era worst in Hollywood history"

From my own experiences, I think a lot of older people, have stopped going to the cinema, post pandemic.

They had the life frightened out of them by the media for over two years and some of them have just got out of the habit, whilst others are still scared of going anywhere indoors, where there`s large numbers of people.

The price doesn’t bother me too much as you are paying for the experience. What does bother me is tonnes of people thinking it’s ok to chat away during the film or look at phones on mad bright screens. Haven’t been to a film in ages where there hasn’t been some douche ruining it for everyone else.

Went to see Banshees of Inisherin recently, thought it was fantastic. Probably Parasite is the last film I enjoyed at the cinema before that.

So much Marvel tripe being churned out... great for kids but really can't understand it otherwise.

Or a load of porkers stuffing their face

I went to see jaws at the fact in town, love it when they rerun classics on the big screen

And this... will always wait until a film has been a good few weeks. Even then though, you'll have a group chatting at the back, a couple slurping on tango ice blasts and crunching nachos, and some kids on full brightness phones in the corner of your eye.

I thought this and went to see The Northman in an unpopular cinema at a daft time ages after release. There were 2 other people there and of course they’re just chatting away having a great time.
What makes it worse is that I’m a monumental fanny but my Mrs will not tolerate anything so I feel the rise in tension until she eventually breaks and goes mental.

I swore at a couple during Black Panther 2 last week for talking through the start.

I'm gonna disagree with the logic here. If you really want to go see a particular film in the cinema I'd actually recommend going within 4/5 days of release when it's a bit busier. The punters at those screenings are generally ones that will be more likely to want to properly watch the film. It tends to be younger people going to the matinees after a couple of weeks that are more likely to piss around, particularly when the theatre is fairly empty anyway.

Also, if you don't mind the extra expense go to the Everyman Cinema in town where it's a bit more intimate and the punters are, again, generally more invested in the film they've paid good money for to sit down and watch properly.

Think Tarantino, like Scorsese is more relevant because of his interviews rather than his work.
Railing against the constant churn of franchises. Except Marvel on average release 4 films a year. DC less than that.
And every cinema is a multiplex. More than enough room for everyone.
Tarantino's argument, much like his films, is not a new one. Every decade has been the worst decade in cinematic history. The 70s full of Star Wars despite The Godfather, the 80s Back to the Future and Star Trek despite Rain Man or The Untouchables and so on.
Every decade has its whiney old guy moaning about how good things used to be, no different today and probably won't be tomorrow

Find it hard to disagree with him, i think we're spoiled with choices in TV series the last few years but very rarely a movie comes out i feel the need to rush to the cinema and watch.
I mean, I like some of the Marvel films, but they do strangle everything else. Both my local cinemas were dominated by the Black Panther 2 film this week. Barely anything else shown.

It's always been like this to an extent when a popular franchise releases something, but it seems to be getting worse.

Films in general seem less risky these days. Or maybe they are, you've just go to hunt for them.

There were lots of older folk at the opera at the weekend (including yours truly) :coffee:
