Three reasons:
1. Read a Bill Simmons article years ago that suggested Everton would be my type of EPL team for various reasons.
2. Both Landon Donovan and Tim Howard.
3. Actively involved with a fan club now. Even if no Americans are on the roster, I'll be a supporter for life.

No. The heart and soul of this club, truly being The People's Club, The School of Science, the big club that didn't need to be funded by a foreign billionaire to compete - Those are the real reasons I fell in love with Everton. Tim Howard may direct you here, but it won't take you long to realize Everton is so much more than Tim Howard. COYB!

I definitely feel this is the most common route for American Evertonians. Tim Howard was the necessary link, but then people find out being an Evertonian is bigger than just him or any one factor

This is easily the best phrase that gets thrown around by Evertonians. Exactly how I felt when I became an Everton supporter. I felt like I was chosen, rather than making my own decision.

The first EPL game I saw was when Fellaini headed home a winner vs ManU a few years ago. I fell in love with the atmosphere and that giant Afro. Once I did some research I couldn't get enough of Blues.
Unlike most of you in the UK, there is definitely an element of arbitraryness when us Yanks pick a club to support--we don't inherit a team from our ancestors, or at least I didn't. For me, it was a mention by my friend back in school in the late 90s. He was trying to be derisive and said something like "you probably would like Everton." He was a ManU supporter so I suspect it was something about Everton being a "small club" etc. Despite his cynism, I took him to heart and tried to follow the team when I could, liking the fact that they were always a club that could do more with less. Only later however, did my support solidify when me and my girlfriend met some Everton supporters in the Airport in Washington DC. They were infectiously enthusiastic, fun, and nice. So it sealed it. The fact that there were/are American players on the team is a bonus.
