Quitting Alcohol

It's a nice idea but I enjoy the taste of beer/wine too much.

That being said, I probably have around 4 pints and maybe a glass or 2 of wine a week so not that much.

Don't really go out in the evening, don't like the crowd. Normally lunch on a Saturday, few drinks after, cook a nice meal and that's it. I could drink every day but I make sure I don't. Normally just Fri-Sat.

I run during the week which is as good a relief for me.

I do it for a month at a time and at the end I note how ace I feel, then I go and pickle my liver again. Too many of mates drink so I'm sucked in by that and a weak resolve.

Good luck though, like anything pretty much the body is just about creating habits.

This mirrors my life!

Every Sunday I say I am having a week off but get a call from mates during the week and cannot say no. Also, on the days I manage to not go out, my wife gets a bottle of wine and I drink half of that.

I have a dry January every year (have done for about 5 years) and it's ace, the clarity of mind and productivity is immense but, by the 3rd week I am at my wits end.

I keep telling myself I will get a hold of it one day but worry it will never happen and I will just become and old soak.

Today I can wholeheartedly say I'm going to stop drinking for a while. I used to be tee total and can honestly say that nights out are no more fun when drinking than when not. Drinking just adds a headache the following day.

I'm going to post my efforts here daily for accountability.

I think that's his point tbf. It's almost impossible to give up completely because it's such a standard presence in social situations which, in turn, are hard to avoid.

@ItsOKImAPilot, was there some incident that gave you this epiphany? Because It sounds to me like you're a very moderate drinker, which should be perfectly fine. Just because we probably can't go without something doesn't qualify it as a dependence, I like chocolate but I don't go from Mars bar to Mars bar to get me through the day
Lately certain things have been making me sick. I cannot stand the smell and taste of chicken and I cannot be inside the house if my fiancé is cooking bacon. He and I like to sit outside on our deck for the evening and that's when we usually have a few glass of wine or beer. I am a lightweight so three is the absolute max but I'm not drunk, but I will make up in the middle of the night feeling so much worse and have thrown up even. I tried just having one and had the same issue but not as bad. No idea what it is but it is concerning.

Unless you're a recovering alcoholic, I don't see the point in 'giving up alcohol'. If you want a drink, have a drink. If you've not had one for a while, and then have one. Who cares?

Same with smoking, people who claim to have 'given in' when they have a single cig on a night out - it's just a cig, it doesn't mean you've started smoking again or fallen off the wagon.

Sounds like you're up the duff imo.

It's not so much drinking is a relief, it's refreshing. I run/workout a considerable amount for stress relief but there I get a lot of enjoyment from sitting outside with a few drinks. It's hard to remove that environment unless I stop sitting outside.
