I just don't understand why they would go there with Benitez. The club couldn't of been less enthusiastic about the whole thing. I guess that maybe its Moshiri and Usmanov vs. everyone else and if that's the case then what an incrediblely odd hill to die on! They must see that our squad, poor as it is won't be relegated even if we'd got a no-mark like Eddie Howe or a total rookie like Big Dunc in to manage them. Realistically we'd be looking at 6th to 7th at best and 12th to 14th at worst. Well isn't that the exact same position we're in now? I get that in theory Benitez will command more respect from the players and be able to attract better new guys going forward but ultimately I just feel like the risk outweighs the rewards. If things go badly in the opening five or six games of the season then the crowd could very well turn on him in a big way. As I've said before, regardless of how I feel about him I'll still back the guy at the match for the duration of his time here but even so I can honestly see him being sacked before Christmas and we'll of wasted another season because of incompetence from the top of the club yet again.
It’s well reported that Moshiri likes the big name managers. I guess Benitez was the only candidate who ticked the boxes for him, won silverware and managed big clubs. Whether he is still capable of achieving something is very much open to debate.

The other quote I saw somewhere in the media was that he is “fed up with losing” which I guess means Moshiri doesn’t want to go for another young “project” manager. I’m passed the enraged stage now and just curious to see how it all pans out.

Absolutely, no doubt they will make me furious enough during the season, no point starting out on a negative slant.

I know.

I shall now spend the rest of the summer anticipating the new season with my usual optimism, as I have every summer since Harry was in charge.

That I may be depressed by November is neither here nor there at this stage :)

It's all one big joke to the posters on rawk. They ain't infuriated at all, they find this hilarious. We are now managed by a man who's face is on their banners. This is a very low and humiliating moment for Everton Football Club. This appointment feels like it's robbed the club of it's pride and dignity. It's feels like getting your trousers pulled down in public. The fall out will be nasty if this fella is a flop here.
Just a front, their blue eyed idol has switched sides at the first wink from Blue Bill. They have banners of the Everton managers, good, they should have banners for all Everton managers. Howard and Harry Catterick would look nice on a banner on the Kop. They are hurting over this. They think they are special and realise they are not.

If the waiter can win 5 derbies in a row that would be a good step towards a glimpse of trust. Don't think he will last long enough to play 5 derbies though.

The Kopite Media/Journos like Sky/Joyce/King will be desperate for our fans to give them what they want - disruption to buzz off and write about.

Boss atmosphere first game at Goodison to stick it up them.
They're being truthful though, The first game will be rocky regardless.
Get a couple of wins and people will soon be on side.
