Homepage Article Rafael Benitez Appointed Everton Manager

Evertonians have become apathetic. From the applauding of Bill Kenwrights face at goodison after his years of holding us back to applauding Lukaku after he tried to hold the club to ransom "or he's off" ......

The anger directed at the hiring of Rafael is so misplaced. So many things have gone on at our club which have been much worse

Easy to say about things like Kenwright... I myself am somewhat mixed but many rightly or wrongly think he did the best he could with limited funds. Lukaku was and still is our best striker of the PL era, I agree with you that there have been failings at the very top of this club for decades now so that's why I personally refrained from directing anger at the fella bagging 20+ goals a season for us.

I do agree about misdirected anger over Benitez though. If the only reason someone is angry is because he's managed Liverpool then they need to give their head a wobble. My concerns lie firmly at the board in which I'm not entirely sure if we have a plan, not entirely sure what Brands does and also not sure that in the entirety of world football we couldn't have got a a manager whose best years are ahead of them rather than behind. The big concern for me is perhaps Moshiri just wants a safe steady pragmatist who will maintain us safely midtable until the stadium comes.

But that is total conjecture for me so all I can do is get behind the team and hope for the best. If my fears are realised I'll speak out but hopefully they don't eh!

Its a month before the season starts and we still have no right hand side, little pace in the midfield, no back up keeper, Toshun and a want away Kean as back up strikers and to top it off Richarlison will be missing the first few games of the season.

If Benitez does anything above 10th he deserves a contract extension.

I wouldn't be too down on expectation mate. Any manager could improve on last season with an actual right back, some more pace in attack and some energy in midfield.

It seems like none of that will get sorted before the window shuts but it's always the case with a Euros/World Cup summer.

We'll see at least 2/3 incomings I'm sure of that.

not enough though we actually need 5 players.

Anyone else think we might end up playing a back 3 given the lack of quality wingers/wide forwards?

Richarlison is our only decent option out wide and he's not a winger.

Back 3 seems likely to me.

That said if we do bring in a winger then it'll be 433/4231 with Richarlison cutting inside and new guy providing width.

Absolutely need 2 imo

Right back and a wide forward if we go back 4.

Wingback and another CM is we go 3 at the back.

I'm not counting stuff like say a backup keeper as we'll just do another Olsen type deal if Virginia isn't deemed good enough. Nor am I counting stuff like a backup striker whilst Moise Kean is still an Everton player.

lol...this thread.

Despite what many of us think should trigger the quick departure of Benitez (and personally I'm not bothered if he's here or not now - stay or go: I dont care), success for him is top 7 and 60 points.

The club will be well pleased with that.
And if he doesn't get that?
