You say the fault lines have been around for a while. Reckon most would agree.

What grinds my gears are the immature Fat Pig Oink stuff at the one bloke who has had zero responsibility for any of it.

I totally get that some hate him, based on a comment many years ago, but judging before a ball has been kicked in anger just seems weird to me.

Personally, its an underwhelming appointment, (again), but the mess here is nothing of his doing.
Ok, then why was it OK for those to say "give this guy a chance" the same as those people wanting Fat Sam and Sammy Lee gone before they even came in the club? Both have atrocious styles of football, both are massively past it.

He should get an even p;laying field to work from.

People protested - that's their right. Now they should STFU and get behind the manager and team.

I've never known Evertonians to ever just get behind a manager though mate. We are a contrarian bunch!

People should be reasonable though and try to avoid some of the nastiness aimed towards him. I'm trying very hard to not let my historical dislike of the bloke cloud my judgement, as it is the right thing to do.

Most were horrified the board felt the need to appoint him afaicr, but most seemed to give him a chance. A few weeks later he had signed his own death warrant.

I mean, in what reality would you not want to give an Everton manager a chance?

Benitez is the perfect scapegoat.

I am dismayed by the level of personal insult towards him resorted to by a minority.

I don't actually believe most of it is intentional not that that excuses it. He has just become the convenient focus of frustration and anger amongst a proportion of fans, when their gripes should be directed elsewhere.

I'm far more hacked off about Ancelotti bailing on us, and the unquestioning attitude of some toward him, than anything Benitez has done or said in the past.

People are entitled to dislike Benitez, but hate goes too far based on his supposed past sins. I don't believe there is very much of that at all when push comes to shove. Hate is a surface emotion and with Everton, you don't have to peer very much below the surface to find the real issues.

On your 1st point absolutely. I hope everyone can have a discussion without insulting phrases. I'm not a Benitez hater either, I can see some positives to the move. I am just trying to outline some criteria for what I would deem a positive season. But people who support the manager are entitled to their opinion and shouldn't come under criticism.

As for the 2nd point I agree, but it's not just happened this year has it? We have been increasingly limited over 2 or 3 years ever since that woeful Steve Walsh summer.

So far this summer, I'm not sure we have lost any 1st teamers but also havent added too many either. So not sure why we arent capable emulating a similar points performance to last season. I dont think it's an unreasonable target at this point. If we do sell a key player, targets can be amended accordingly.

In reality, we compete for the positions in the interval 6 - 12. If we are closer to 6th place than 12th place, we have had a good season.

Sorry, but I think there's been enough explanation over the last 2 months that it isn't about the comment that we can stop raising it as the reason.

He isnt liked cos he managed the RS. I get it. I dont rate him that highly as a manager for a 2021 PL club.

But the childish stuff does my nut a bit.
More to it than that. I'd take Rodgers in a heartbeat and he managed them. Don't want to go over it all again really.

But I agree, the insults aren't needed. I don't like him and don't want him but don't aim abuse at him, certainly not about his appearance etc.

I didn't want him because I see him as a busted flush; a depressing appointment designed to consolidate instead of strive to improve.

I'm over his Kopite connections and I feel there's quite a few on here who feel the same way.

The entire basis of a couple of posters' mundane rhetoric rests purely on a presumptuous idea which suits their "argument" best.

Me too.

But the reasons why that the board think he is the man, are not his fault. If that makes sense.

Of course and for that reason I've largely held my council as I will when I go to Goodison.
I try not to get myself riled up by it, made all the easier by the apathy I'm all too familiar with these days, but I do understand that others can't/won't.

That’s sort of where I am , it’s definitely not his fault . Although that said looking at him on the touchline yesterday just felt weird , I can pretend it didn’t but it did . I imagine that may go or at least lessen but who knows .
