People don't hate him "based on a comment many years ago".

They hate him because he is a Liverpool legend.

Who's arsed about Liverpool though? We've taken one of their legends and turned him Blue like we did with Shanks.

If Kendall had gone to the RS do you really think that betrayal would have hurt that lot more than us? No chance they would have loved every minute rubbing it in.

He didn't need to be he was still a name linked to the job and half the fanbase would have been on his back from the off.
Linked to the job by noone who had any idea. He wasn't wasn't an option. Rumours on twitter don't mean he is in the running for it. You act as if he had several.interviews and was set to sign.

And he would not have faced the same vitriol or seen the fanbase as split as it has been as benitez will and has.

A man and his dog lets be honest. Most didnt want him myself included but most are willing to give him a fair crack of the whip.

Let the Cult make fools of themselves abusing him before a ball has been kicked - if he fails then he fails like them all who came before him its hardly nostradamus to predict that with this squad of ours - however if he does well here quite a few supporters are going to look very silly with the banners and the abuse.

Hope he is given a fair crack especially in light of the dross presiding in the current squad. Would have preferred a complete overhaul of the back room staff though. If Kenwright feels sorry for them why doesn't he just throw them a few bob.

So you only believe polls if they have your preferred outcome?

Come on mate he was any less unpopular than half the names linked such as Moyes, Nuno and Howe - there was no standout candidate.
You are getting popularity and hatred confused.

You can have, I dunno, 20% wanting Benitez and 10% wanting Howe. Yet 80% could hate Benitez whereas 0% hate Howe.

They are not the same thing. It's not a black and white question.

Evidently people are arsed about them?

The second sentence would never have happened. Kendall would not go there, Liverpool would not approach him so it's irrelevant.

That may well be true mate but the board dont hire managers by popularity contest they did their due diligence and came to the conclusion that Benitez had the best CV and best chance of overacheiving with this current crop of players in the face of FFP issues.

No one can ultimately say if they were right or wrong making the choice they did - its not as black or white as signing Iwobi for £27 million being a bad decision.

Not sure why he took the job. I understand he’s hard faced so he won’t be arsed about the fan backlash, but he must’ve been aware of the club’s financial situation. I guess he’s still getting a decent wedge regardless of how the season goes….

"Taken" is a strange way of putting it

He left them 10 years ago and was unemployed, we hardly took him

Their fans don’t see Benitez coming here as a betrayal, they know he’s completely washed up as a manager, they’re just laughing at us.

Sure, This has got nothing to do with what I said though!

He was/is in no way just as popular/unpopular as the other candidates because nobody hates any of the other ones.

One thing I would say though, where on earth is Moshiri getting this idea that Benitez would overachieve with crap players on no money to spend on changing things? His whole career has been built on spending big money!
