It wasn't the board who made the decision to appoint benitez it was the man that's not on the board but the owner moshiri ,the board of directors are a non entity with respect to recruiting managers and probably players
I don't think this is true. I can't see Farhad Moshiri signing the likes of Ben Godfrey, or do we just blame him for the bad signings?
Ultimately, since he was promoted to the board;
“Our approach now is to have a Director of Football with a broader remit,
responsible for the whole footballing strategy at the Club, rather than just player recruitment. Marcel is now responsible, and accountable, for delivering the long-term, holistic, football strategy and principles, from Academy through to the first team.
Marcel has now begun his work on delivering the club's long-term, permanent football strategy, working closely with the Academy Director (Joel Waldron) and Head of Football Strategy (Richard Battle).”
I'm of the view that they're not lying.
I'm of the view that the clubs Director of Football;
1. Promoted to the board in 2019 with very clear public statements from owner/CEO as to why/his remit.
2. Renewed his contract recently.
3. Publicly endorsed Benitez.
4. Paid big money/the lion share of budget on players Ancelotti admitted he hadn't heard of. Brands view then was seen as more important than Ancelotti's....
5. Joined three more boards in the board of Everton Investments Ltd, Everton Finance Ltd and Goodison Park Stadium Ltd.
...
probably had some input into the appointment of Benitez.
A manager with a profile pretty much matching all Brands' previous managerial appointments.
Sure, it's Moshiri's ultimate call, as it is with any football club owner over DOF - but to say the board (which Moshiri has chosen to not sit on, it's a technicality) is a non entity when it comes to managers and players is a bit silly, IMO.
