Spot on. He was clearly on the wind up by associating us on the day with those small clubs coming to spoil at Anfield. But he DID NOT call Everton a small club. That's what I've been saying - context matters.
He was clearly arsey and annoyed because he didn't win, but it was totally understandable and, critically, what he said was 100% correct.
Most of it is clearly a language thing to be honest - he meant "club with a negative approach to the game", which certainly defined Moyes' Everton correctly.
"he called us a small club, wah I'm not going the game anymore *stomps feet like a baby*"I’ve been on the road all day out of WiFi range. 78 pages ffs, can someone sum up the general mood in a sentence or two. Any positives at all? Thanks in advance.
I have thanks. Listened to it about oh 15 mins ago.Go back and listen to that interview. He clearly makes a distinction between the small clubs and Everton doing that on the day.
You just cant accept that.
By the way, up until about 10 minutes ago I was convinced he'd baldly stated we were a small club. Having heard and watched that video clip thiugh I;m inclined to agree and accept his explanation about referring to the eay we set up on the day.
That was back end of 2019. Yes, on MNF he clarified what he'd said.Didnt it also come up couple years ago when he was commenting with carragher and carragher asked him about everton. He had back tracked back then.
I'm not defending him as he WAS on the wind up. But he clearly wasn't saying Everton per se are a small club. It was a calculated insult to associate us with smaller clubs by saying we acted like one on the day.I have thanks. Listened to it about oh 15 mins ago.
He knew what he was doing and he meant it (in terms of having a pop at us, he probably doesn't believe it but he knew it would wind us up.)
There is nothing for me to accept. He said it and he meant it, for me personally its not that big of a deal and never has been, but it doesn't need defending either just because he is now the clubs manager.
He was playing to the RS gallery and it worked a charm but it was classless and not something a manager should do. But as someone else just said, he probably didn’t believe it, he has previous for spitting his dummy out post-game.I'm not defending him as he WAS on the wind up. But he clearly wasn't saying Everton per se are a small club. It was a calculated insult to associate us with smaller clubs by saying we acted like one on the day.
Well finish in 9th place. Among the best of the rest.“This is the greatest gamble in the history of Merseyside football,” a source close to the situation said. “It’ll either be a shambles or a huge success. There’s no middle ground.”
Even if he did mean it, I think he was fighting for his team. He has said as much today he is our manager and will fight for his team accordingly. He knew exactly what he was saying and meant every word of it. You can tell there is a weird pause and look when he spits it out from both him and the interviewer.
He may not have believed it in reality (probably did, no reason not to to be honest) but he was deffo stirring the pot.
