People keep bringing up Ancelotti finishing 10th and not getting abuse without acknowledging that we were in the European places until the last few games of the season.

It's such a stupid point. Ancelotti never had us going 1 win in 8 did he?

The only thing that matters is where you finish.

Would you be ok with Benitez finishing 10th if we were in the European places with a few games to go?

Would you be ok with him losing to Sheff Utd when we're in the hunt for Europe?

You hold Benitez to way higher standards than you did Ancelotti. You just demonstrated it by how you defended his failures in a way you never would for Benitez.

Serious question. Who could we have got (or can get ) who is better?

Taking into account we couldn't poach anyone in a job (and still can't) due to FFP.

IMO he probably was the best we could attract with PL experience. No way you take a chance on some foreigner with no PL experience with this squad.

Well considering that my opinion is that Benitez isn't very good at all I would take nearly anyone over him.

The way this question gets phrased and put to his critics assumes that he is actually a decent manager and I'm not seeing much from him to back that up.

PL experience and past trophies count for naught when he's in the job and we are 1 win in 8.

I'm not convinced that he's the only manager capable of achieving 1 win in 8 with the players available to him.

Just been robbed blind by a corrupt ref after a solid performance with 3 key players out to a new manager bounce side and the first thought for the usual suspects is to head into the manager thread querying why one crap player came off the bench over a different crap player / get him oot!!! :hayee:

Never change lads - going to be a long 2+ seasons for you clinging onto misery as the manager guides us to stability whilst BMD is being built.
You know there can be more than one reason why things go wrong right? And people coming in to the thread about him to question his decisions is irrelevant to what the ref did or the players did.

It can be seen as a contributing factor. If there was a refs thread, I'm sure there would be lots of criticism for the ref in there.

You can't ignore the fact that we were in contention for Europe and performing quite well for the majority of Ancelotti's second season when you're criticizing people for getting on Benitez's back early.

If Benitez had us looking up to competing for Europe instead of looking hopeless and desperate for a win then he would be getting less abuse like Ancelotti did.

Also by the time we did drop out of the European spots people were criticizing him.

Hes getting grief because we are in a crap run of form.

With the squad he inherited and the injury crisis, he's done ok-to-decent so far.

Let's all be sensible here.

There is no chance of people being sensible here. Without our best defender, midfielder and last seasons top scorer against a team with a new manager bounce - also considered one of the best in the game, yet he drew with a garbage managed (so they would like to believe) Everton.

Those stats alone are diabolical and relegation standards, but it's the manner of the defeats and the teams we have played which make it a lot worse . Add in an early cup exit and twilight zone subs, the injury story only stretches so far.
