A lot of negativity here against Benitez, and especially against our offensive game. I'm not saying it has no potential for improvement, because it certainly has. However, if we agree that a good offensive play should lead to chances, and preferably big chances, and preferably goals, then we have a good starting point.

What is interesting is that under Benitez we have a median expected goal of 1.7 per game, while after the same number of games we had under Ancelotti a median expected goal of 1.36 per game. We have two points less than at the same time last year. This is by no means a crisis, and keep in mind that Benitez has not been at the club for long.

I also think mostly the entertainment value is better. Against Spurs there were not many goal chances, but there were duels and tackles, we wanted to play fast forward in the field when we won the ball, and we competed.

Personally, I see a lot of positive signs, but of course I do not know what the future brings, but right now it's a bit hyperbolic to start talking about crisis.
After 13 games under Benitez we scored 20 goals. After 13 games under Ancelotti we had scored 31 goals.

Well no, because no Evertonian would want Slippy G at the helm

Nothing to do with the RS links more that the Anyone But Benitez brigade think there are these mystical boss managers out there who Everton are just overlooking for past it dinosaurs.

The fact Spurs and Villa are appointing managers like Nuno & Gerrard suggest otherwise.

Obviously Spurs have gone for Conte but 18 month deal suggests he'll be off and like it or not Spurs are one of the Scab 6 and can lure better calibre of managers than we can push comes to shove.

I base it on last season (EPL). After the first 13 games we had 23 goals. 1.76 goals per game, while xG was 1.01 per game. Something that reflected our real level, and something that was confirmed throughout the season.

Very true. It’s a tough run of games coming up and the media will start cranking up the pressure if we don’t get results. Will the board have the backbone to keep Benitez in post if we lose a few more on the spin? Who knows. It could get interesting in the coming weeks. But, pick up a point against city and a win against Brentford and all the pressure probably evaporates.
I think he will get plenty of time, they didn’t hire him lightly.
Also the list of managers available, or ones we could attract is very limited.

Howe in at Newcastle, it’ll be good to see how he does point v point versus our manager for the rest of the season, maybe with a worse squad also..

Is the number conceded not important? I think comparing 13 games tells us nothing worth knowing.

In Ancelotti's first 11 games of the 2019-20 season, Everton scored 17 goals and conceded 17 goals. Last season we scored 20 goals in 11 games, and conceded 18 goals. Benitez's first 11 games then Everton have scored 16 and conceded 16. (EPL)

Shame I can only 'like' this comment once.

I couldn't overcome my hatred of Gerrard ever, so it's not a giant leap of logic to see others feel the same about Benitez.

Unfortunately, he's here, we can't afford to sack him, so let's see what he can do. I'll support the team but if Benitez goes before Christmas, I will shed no tears
