Benitez hopefully saw something tonight that just may save his job, if he heeds the message. He was forced tonight to play some of the youngsters lots of us have been saying should be give a chance and guess what, it turns out that Simms and Dobbin couldn’t have been worse than Rondon after all, in fact they are both much better than him. Let’s hope now that we never have to see the lumbering Venezuelan again, also, if Mina isn’t available, Branthwaite has to start, we really need that physical presence.

The fact that we had some younger committed lads in meant that even though we were penned back we looked far more solid than against Palace because we were less passive in our defending. I hope that Benitez can look at this game and compare it with what went before and take it on board.

Going forward we need to play either 3 at the back, or, 3 in midfield every week, when players are out injured, don’t be afraid of giving the youngsters a chance. Seamus, great servant that he has been, should only play in an emergency from now on, I know Kenny isn’t the answer, but, he was far more solid tonight than Seamus has been for a good while. Hopefully we can bring a right back on loan in a couple of weeks, if not, we have to hope that Benitez patches things up with Digne so that we can get through the rest of the season with Kenny, Godfrey and Holgate as options at full back

Local club - Preston - have just taken on Ryan Lowe (a Scouser) as Manager. He is renowned for his proactive football stance and certainly talks a good game. The players have already bought into his style and the club is buzzing, seemingly. Still only early days but the fans at his former club, Plymouth Argyle, are gutted by his departure.
Maybe this is the route we should be going down - can't be any worse than the last 4-5 'proven' Managers - and will, in any event, be cheaper to sack!
is That the kind of appointment that makes richarlison want to stay?

When footy resumes we're in a decent place to get up the league: fixtures becoming easier on paper; Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison back; new signings to augment the handful of decent senior pros we have plus the few promising youngsters we have coming through.
Great post Grant Ingles. Do us a favour sausage, just keep Blue Bill and DBB in cuppas and sign out of GoT x

The Benitez Babes era was born tonight.

if only he'd listened to you earlier Roy we wouldn't be IN this mess.

Except he may be a supporter who is optimistic and what is wrong with that? He gets loads of crap on here because he is not filled with bile. Why should he sign out. If all you want is a reflection of yourself then why do you bother?
oh dear ANOTHER captive of davek and forverblue92. This is getting silly.

In many ways that was the most Newcastle of all our performances. Backs to the wall, 5 at the back, 20% possession, ground out a point.
Yep, did remind me of his Newcastle team. That's not a good thing but, given what we had available tonight, it's fair enough

Branthwaite earned himself a run
