do you remember me saying he'd take two months to get up to speed and then he'd be fine? scored a few days ago, our best player other than Gray in the derby.
just sayin
Kev, he got a 2 yard tap in and as for the derby, he was just marginally less crap than he normally is, the two youngsters showed more in the minutes they have been given tonight than the Venezuelan donkey has all season. He is supposed to be third choice striker, but, the two youngsters are both far more effective than he is. Seems to me we could have well done without him and saved the much needed money.

Perhaps Benitez will now accept that he has made a mistake with Rondon and not inflict him on us anymore.

Good result tonight, but this is what we get with Rafael, one good result followed by a couple of bad, it would sum this season for him to get it wrong against Burnley and Newcastle meaning we are back to square one looking over our shoulder.

Good result but lets not get carried away.......

They’ll not get another minute once the Rondons of the world are back.

How many premier league teams have teenagers starting games as a main striker?

How many premier league clubs have teenagers starting games at centre back?

This obsession Everton fans have with how our managers use youth players is bizarre. We’ve literally used so many of them in the past even when some of them haven’t been good enough by a long way.

Under Moyes we had kids in the team all the time. We started one season with Baxter Gosling Rodwell all playing despite none of them looking ready. Vaughan and Anichebe were barely prem standard, then teenage Barkley got a go. Even back then though it was always ‘it’s not enough, he doesn’t play youth’.

Since then we’ve thrown in so many players DCL Holgate Stones Lukaku Davies Kenny Gordon Branthwaite despite some of them being nowhere near good enough for us at various times. Yet still, the criticism is always about the 17 year old lad who isn’t starting games.

I don’t see many other teams in the premier league playing this amount of kids. The majority of managers will always choose experienced players over raw kids to start games. They do this all the time, almost every single manager does this yet our fan base gets uniquely annoyed as to why a teenage striker isn’t suddenly getting picked every week because he had a good showing in one game. It’s a bizarre mentality.

But our form before the last 10 games was way above relegation form. So when you average it out you end up where we are which is bottom half but not in relegation problems. Not good enough by any stretch but it’s just inaccurate to take our worst run of games of the season and use it as evidence of our upcoming relegation .

Thats fair enough. But dont give it the nothing to see here. We're in relegation form still.

Not sure Benitez can take any credit for that result. He's stubbornly refused to use the young players even when the only other options boiled down to Iwobi and Rondon. Tonight he didn't even have Rondon available so he had no choice. I'm not going to pretend that he's some sort of tactical genius for benefitting from playing players that he was forced into selecting.

By what metric though? If you take a short sample of 3 or 4 games it’s not relegation form, if you take a long sample of the whole season, it’s not relegation form, so then you have to take a medium sample to get a run of results which is relegation form. This just doesn’t logically follow. If we were showing relegation form, we’d be in the bottom 3 and showing no signs of getting out of it. We’re not in that scenario. Arbitrarily choosing what game to count back to to make the results look as bad as possible isn’t decent proof that we’re heading for relegation.
