Loads of time then. The agenda here is daft. He needs to shape the squad, we have had loads of failure and until we go into the new season I will not judge too much because he inherited a mess.
I suspect his ruthless attitude is exactly why he was brought in. God knows it needs razing to the ground and rebuilding. You can't do that in one go though and you can't get relegated.
Looking at some of the Gray and Gordon play though, I see the green shoots. At least Benitez has the balls missing from the team for years.
You're right, he had loads of time and was outperformed by Sam Allardyce's Sunderland which is why they were relegated.
Gray and Gordon are just about the only thing going well, we are unquestionably worse in every department and by every metric even compared with last year's luke warm season. I'm happy for you that you are relaxed about our situation but I find it odd that you don't understand why people are less relaxed than you. Our tactics are bizarre, our performances are abject, our manager seems intent on picking fights with the fans, current players and club legends and we have accrued 6 points from the last 36 available, but Gray's playing well. I couldn't care less about Benitez's balls, I care about what's between his ears and it appears to be pig faeces.

I've shared this quote a few times now, but I think it's very useful insight into Benitez from Steven Gerrard;

Does anyone think this particular group of players will react in the right way to this type of manager?

If no, is the manager the problem, or the players?

This was my opinion from May last year - click and read the thread;

October;

I'm still of the same view.

The core of the squad is rotten and has been for some time.

The squad are definitely unlikeable but the manager is detestable. Plus the football is as bad as any I've seen in nearly 60 years of watching the blues That in itself is bad enough, but, he doesn't even grind out results with it.

When you then take into account the propensity for putting the blame for any failings on anybody other than himself.
It is easy to understand why a lot of our fans me included, feel that he should go.

This is bang on the money, in addition to this a lot of our problems on the pitch are tactical. The back four we had were not conceding goals left right and centre under Ancelotti, even if the football was largely crap, and we were rarely conceding from set pieces. There have also been numerous times where our players clearly do not know if they’re supposed to press, or sit back which again the manager has to be communicating to the players or working on at the training ground.

He inherited a midtable/top 10 side.

He'll turn us into a bottom half of the table side.

He'll dismantle and spend millions to make us....a midtable side (at best).

I think;

Sack him tomorrow - we finish midtable.
Keep him until the end of the season - we finish midtable.

The concern for me is someone who I figured would be interim/under a Director of Football could be given the opportunity to try a rebuild in the summer

Surely there would be a lot more flexibility for someone in the summer bearing in mind those out of contract? Time to draw up a proper plan.
Part of the issue with Benitez is it never seemed like a long term appointment anyway given how contentious an appointment it was.

Tactically he’s been appalling virtually all season too. Every single set piece we concede feels like it has a high chance of a goal due to lack of organisation is just one example. Our team shape is all over the place and the players don’t look like they know what to do in the system which rests entirely on the manager

When the ball is in the air, in the box, it’s like a hand grande has been lobbed in.
