….no, there’s no level of success that will make me change my mind about Benitez’s appointment. For me, it’s not that he managed the Reds, it’s more that he publicly belittled my club whilst managing the Reds. We need to retain our principles and values & we shouldn’t have courted him.

I get your point about being ruthless in our commitment of acquiring the right person but it’s a big old world out there & I think there were plenty of options. I’m of a view that Moshiri wanted a safe appointment to get us through the ground development, rather than acquiring a progressive candidate who’d carry more risk.

I‘m on record as suggesting Benitez could do a decent job, but I won’t sway from believing he shouldn’t have been appointed.

This bit I'm curious about. What's the big deal with him belittling us? I'm of the opinion that these things only bother when you actually believe them to contain a grain of truth.

…I wouldn’t care but I wouldn’t then expect us to employ him as our manager. I’d like to think we had values and self-respect not to pursue him.

My views on the manager are fairly well known at this stage. Beating dirty Leeds at Elland Road might help to slightly win me over, i said slightly now!
