watching this small debate over the last few pages, I think both sides are missing the point which was made right around the appointment. This was a needlessly divisive appointment which would do the opposite of uniting the fan base. This has come to pass! as seen in this forum, there is really no need to have Everton fans arguing with each other with such vitriol over a coach! Unless the upside of appointing him is so huge, it appears to have been a dumb thing to do

It wasn't needless if he was the right man to take the club forward.

We've had the plucky underdog winning a trophy (Martinez)

The flavour of the month (Koeman)

The young up and coming maveric (Silva)

The world class manager (Ancelotti)

None have worked - its easy to say "well the fans dont like this guy so we wont appoint him" when weve tried and failed with numerous managers that have cost tens of millions to hire and fire.

The fans have no say in the matter - if the man does the job he's paid to do then thats all that ultimately matters mate.

I appreciate the thoughtful response and your points are all valid, however I remain of a mind that the upside of the appointment would have to be very significant to justify the obvious downside of the rancour this has caused within the fanbase. I think many did not see the upside being that significant from the outset. That is not to say anyone wants us to lose anytime, but it does seem a reasonable argument.

Cannot help noticing your call for Moshiri out and Brands out, okay what replaces them? have you thought about that?

Brands can be replaced by no one and Moshiri can sell to someone who isn’t going to run us so irresponsibly that they put us on the verge of breaching financial rules and severe punishment, and cause civil war in the fanbase in the space of 5 years.

Problem is mate there are very few managers in the world who the fanbase would be universally behind - one was Ancelotti who failed here.

Looking at the realistic candidates for the job - Potter/Dunc/Lampard- 50/50 at best, Howe/Pulis/Alladyce - majority against which leaves some maveric from overseas who's a risk who may not suit the squad and budget they need to work with from the get go.

Some wanted that fella from Porto because he snarls and gets sent off the touchline yet he gets his pants pulled down year in year out by Klopp/the RS!

Its easy naming managers but those said managers coming here and making a success of it - not so easy!

So if, for instance, we won the league and he left the following season and we proceeded to tumble down the table like a stone.. that wouldn't bother you as long as he's gone?

Well I'd be bothered we (the club) were doing rubbish but I'd be pleased we had a different manager.

I'm pleased we're doing well now but displeased he's the manager.

I fail to see why you have to love both or hate both.

Peter Reid played over 170 times for this club including in a number of finals two of which he won , one our only European trophy and of course was integral in winning two league titles at the core of of greatest ever team . To my knowledge he never played a minute for the RS , our current manager was at them for what about 5 or 6 years whilst he’s been here for 8 matches the comparison is apples and oranges .

clearly your a fan , that’s great . The fella has had a good start , some people aren’t as onboard as you as others have said can’t you allow people to get on with being who they are ? If he’s the success you think and I hope then the results will do the talking for him , that’s surely more productive than this reidy, Ablett , sheedy nonsense.
Reid was more a kopite than Benitez. .... Reid was a Liverpool fan.

Benitez was an employee of Liverpool.... Just like Arteta was an employee of Everton. They do their best for the clubs who employ them.

What I don't understand is people hating Rafael because he was employed by Liverpool.b
