Are there any exceptions?

Like if you go to school are you allowed to drink water and have a snack?

Yeah, there are a few exceptions. They're fairly pragmatic about it. Young kids aren't expected to do it, neither if it's likely to cause or exacerbate illness.

When economic interests means putting AK47's in the hands of children (granted by proxy) then I do have an issue. Same goes with providing attack jets to a military junta running round performing coups when it likes.

As for the savages point, it is a little more difficult to torture and kill in your own back yard and pretend you have nothing to do with it, so those in need, those being persecuted and hunted and killed off from all sorts of places have every right to flee for their lives - if it means asylum in Britain or France or the US then so be it.

The worlds a very murky place. Almost all government will engage in things that to an individual would appear unsavory. It appears to me, more so than anywhere else, our government also tries to counter this by interjecting when people are oppressed, providing sanctuary to the persecuted, providing aid to the poorest and mediating disputes that save lives every day.

It just puzzles me that people know we're killing indiscriminately in all sorts of places yet those same people who are fleeing the killing run to the same people doing the killing? How odd is that?

Children don't have to fast until they reach puberty.
If you're ill you're exempt too but depending upon how devout they are they may fast at another time to make up for it.

That show on 4 the other day explained that children arent expected to fast, but once they reach puberty they are expected to try and from there pick it up and live with the practice.

With there being 18 hours or so between sunrise and sunset I wonder how they cope without water, and are there exceptions for medication, how do smokers cope, is sex a consumable, music, is preparing food allowed during daylight, a blood transfusion say if involved in an RTA, insulin.
The dedication and physical strength to see it through is massive. How do professional athletes manage.

You're allowed to rinse your mouth with water during daylight but not much else.
I worked in the middle east during Ramadan and during the daytime everything was closed and then opened up at sunset until the early hours.
The muslims I worked with made up for their lack of food during the day at their evening meal though.

EDIT: Missed your other questions.
No fornication.
Doubt if you'd prepare food as it would be too tempting.
If you're ill you're exempt and if you're an athlete, you can be made exempt or train/compete at night.

I've done escape and evasion type stuff in the past and it takes a massive amount out of you to go without food for a prolonged period. You lose focus quickly, your strength goes, you get tired very quickly, become very, very irritable and struggle with simple mental tasks.

It's tough. I admire anyone who does this as a show of faith.

When I worked at Ford's there was a Muslim lad that played in the inter departmental footy tournament, after work, during Ramadam in July. Jesus, that took some doing. We were swigging all sorts, including vodka and lemonade and gin and tonics, and he just got on with it.

Perhaps its a plan, when there are no more people fordictatorships and military junta's to oppress then the arms trade will tail off. Or it could be that the arms trade that has and is draining Africa for instance of its natural resources at a cut price has seen those on the sharp end of said arms fleeing and following the trade route to a more affluent and peaceful place to live.
Lennon said "give peace a chance" sadly there isnt a lot of money to be made from it is there.

Kids, the elderly, I think you may even be excused if it would affect your employment - but you'd have to make it up at another time.

So basically everyone except Yaya Toure gets to swerve it.

I'd last about 3 hours by the way.

You're clearly not soft so I ask this out of genuine interest.

If out government didn't operate in the world as we know it and applied genuine ethics in all our dealings with other nations, arms deals etc, etc what type of country do you think we'd live in and be a part of today?

Islam summed up by EFCNIK.
