It has been clearly documented that the Yarmolenko signing hasn't happened due to the Kiev chairman backtracking - somewhat understandably - due to their involvement in the CL. The deal was agreed by all parties, and will now see Everton in pole position come January assuming that Kiev don't progress beyond the group stage. If they do, he'll stay till the end of this season, it they're out, we should get first refusal having met all the terms previously requested.

Well you say "back-up defender", however playing three at the back is an option AND jags is dead dead old AND him or stones may get injured for 3 months AND i'd like someone of great quality to replace either of them AND Martinez has spent 9.5m on an unknown player with a limited budget AND i think he wouldn't waste that if he wasn't sure AND stuff

Maybe £5.5m + £2m + £2m with some of it contingent on appearances.

Just cannot see it being that big an outlay upfront.

Did you notice my use of the word "should" ?

And given the agreed deal has in effect been put on hold, it is perfectly feasible that Kiev, the player and Everton have ironed out a pre-contractual arrangement for January/season end.

Not too sure that's fair, we have all been led to believe that the fee would be in and around £5m it's almost double that and we also know money is tight so, we are also hoping for 2 attacking players and that extra £4.5m could be the difference in calibre of attacking player/s we get.
