We're living in different times. TV money priced this transfer.

Not really mate. Van Dijk will go for around £11m this window and that's an in-demand, highly rated defender, whilst Chelsea have just signed a defender from France for around £3m, and that's Chelsea who pretty much every club mug off.

Meanwhile, we're spending £9.5m on a back up centre half from a part of the world notorious for having dodgy defences.

That's an extra 50% on what we all expected this fee to be. That's a huge amount. It's not Martial stupid but 'kin hell Everton...

That pretty much means we're looking at a loan and that's it now.

I bloody hope it has, as it is stupid money for a back up defender.

That's our club record fee for a centre half isn't it?

Can only see it having add ons and stuff and due to 3rd party ownership having to be purchased.

Cannot see Everton outlaying £9.5m outright this summer on him.

I think they will split it up over three years. Over that period and if he he performs I can see this being acceptable.

Well you're making a lot of assumptions there about relative quality.

Let's give him the chance to show he's worth the money.

NO. Cashflows means that if its only £5.5m outlay this summer - we should still be ok.

I'm not putting figures on it but theres still room to buy another.

You've got to hope so, and Everton have announced the total fee to make the net spend look big.

I genuinely thought £6m was steep. £9m is taking the mick. You have to assume half of that is add ons...

That means absolutely nothing mate. Because sligo rovers are renowned for their awesome wing backs...

I'm not saying he won't be good - I'm saying that if you're taking a punt on a player who may or may not make it, you don't pay premium money for them.

Rodriguez for under a million, fine, makes sense. This one? Let's just say I hope he was well scouted as he pretty much has to be more Stones than Alcaraz now.

I think so. If they put some of the payments into next year (new tv deal) and another on appearances then frankly 50% of that fee becomes rather negligible.

His agent is happy as his client is in the premier league and he should eventually get his money.

We're happy as the cost is spread out a bit better for our cashflows. Without seriously hurting us next year.

Who after dijk? He a gamble just like funes mori

I haven't said it's for definite my friend, I'm merely trying to illustrate that things are not dead and buried on Yarmolenko as we currently stand.
There is, in my opinion, every chance that he can still become an Everton player.
Why are you typing asif you're a premier league manager? Leave your ego at the door.
