Everton have completed their first signing of what might prove a hectic final day with Ramiro Funes Mori sealing his move from River Plate. Everton have stated the final fee is £9.5m (a sum that includes a necessary percentage to the Argentinian football federation) - a £3.5m increase on what was supposedly agreed for the 24-year-old central defender only 10 days ago. Seems it may not have been international clearance that was the cause of the hold-up after all. The Argentina defender was called up for forthcoming internationals having impressed in his previous club’s Copa Liberatores’ triumph this summer and is competition, not a replacement, for John Stones and Phil Jagielka.

EH?

LOL

Knowing Everton, I bet that's been the hold up. We agreed the fee, flew him over, found this out late and we're like "ermmmmm...."

Good bit of money alright but RM must rate him and he might push jags and Stones who will want to be making the English squad. Can't see him getting much game time unless there injury to one of those

We brought him over to Goodison and then realised the third party fee. We knew we'd now have to dish out extra 3M quid but since we had put him in Everton scalf with fans taking pictures it would have been embarrassing to not pursue him even though it meant 9.5M now. That combined with the lack of time for other options. Still I feel he'll be a good signing. Looks relatively tall and strong. As long he isn't dodgy like Alcaraz I'm happy. Welcome lad!

Behave will ya.

It has been clearly documented that the Yarmolenko signing hasn't happened due to the Kiev chairman backtracking - somewhat understandably - due to their involvement in the CL. The deal was agreed by all parties, and will now see Everton in pole position come January assuming that Kiev don't progress beyond the group stage. If they do, he'll stay till the end of this season, it they're out, we should get first refusal having met all the terms previously requested.

No, it was documented that the Yarmolenko signing didn't happen because we only began serious negotiations six days ago. Would you have sold Mirallas a couple of days ago? Because that's the time frame we are looking at. I can't blame the Kiev chairman for not wanting to lose his best player with two days to replace him. I'd be livid if it happened to us.

Why did we only begin to actually negotiate six days ago? Because the board.

Mori deal completed
By Tom Power on September 1, 2015
Ramiro Funes Mori has completed his £9.5m move from River Plate toEverton Football Club.

The Argentinian defender has signed a five year deal with the Toffees after the formalities of the deal were completed over the course of the weekend, and the 24 year old will now provide competition at the heart of the Blues’ defence for regular centre back pairing Phil Jagielka and John Stones.

After finalising the move, Mori expressed his delight at seeing the transfer finally sealed, and pledged to give his all for the Everton cause.

“I’m the type of player who likes to work hard in every training session and in every game,” he exclusively told evertontv. “I train the way I play and I’m going to give it 100 per cent every time I go out there to play for Everton.

“When I heard about Everton’s interest, I didn’t think twice. My agent told me about this opportunity and Everton did everything to bring me over and I wanted to come.

“I know it’s a Club with a lot of history and a lot of good players have come from Everton, so I’m very happy to be here.

“I’ve signed for five years, so hopefully I can keep growing as a player and I can stay here for a long time.”

Mori joins Everton having played over 100 times for River Plate, scoring 10 goals in the process.

Hi there, don't post very much but decided I'd give my 2 cents.

Martinez doesn't really take risks on transfers, usually returning to players he's worked with before or otherwise loaning first then buying. To think that he would pay £9.5m up front is either a massive testament to the player or it's completely broken down based on his achievements at the club. I hardly think that our board would justify that fee either on a potential flop from South America.

I fancy that the steep in price was based on how highly River Plate rate their man but that it was broken down into fairly reasonable installments, hence why the delays in negotiations went on. I'd be really surprised if we forked out over £5m up front.

That said, I've absolutely no evidence in the matter and as such am just filling in more posts on the already chaotic transfer threads....

...MONEY CAN'T BUY YOU STONES THOUGH

Anybody looking for negatives in this signing needs to go back to bed and try getting out of the right side next time.

Right hand side of my bed is a wall, if I've come out of bed on that side then I've ploughed through a brick wall and fallen 2 floors to my death, I would be significantly more angry about that.

I think the Mori deal stinks, there's no way that we would overlook an additional sum amounting to an extra 50%, but if that's the case then surely someone has to be sacked because it's a massive oversight.

People relax. He is signed for the next 8 years not 8 months. He is Jagielka's long term replacement, and so will probably have 5-6 years as first team. This puts the 9.5mil fee in perspective.

No way it's jumped that much or that a price of that magnitude would be paid for a recent debutant CB at international level. For a South American CB at that.

That's a sleight of hand right there.
