Utterly ridiculous fee. Everton should have left it undisclosed, but in true Everton fashion we're flaunting the fee so we can say we had a higher net spend.

Which is mad. People don't understand that we want to sign proven quality, which usually costs proper money. Hence people want to see us spend a fair bit. Wasting money is another thing altogether.

Of course I'm right behind him and I hope he's ace, but regardless of how well he does for us, at this point in time, that is far too much to pay for an unproven CB from Argentina.

Spot on.

Is it though?

We don't know how the deal is structured. We have an idea its spread out but are only seeing the headline amount.

If its half that now. Why are people up in arms?

Because his point remains valid. There is a reason this fee isn't undisclosed - I'm fairly sure we'll find out when the window shuts this evening what that reason was.

Welcome to Everton Aaron Lennon and some randomer on loan.

The fact that we're making it public is everything though.

We should be embarrassed by that fee. But the club are flaunting it because they know they're not spending enough money, so in true warped Everton fashion, they think saying we've spent £10m on someone who should have cost £5m will appease the fans.

Yes. We know that this EFC board are as manipulative as the Medici with intrigues all over the show @davek

However, from a cashflow perspective it doesn't hurt us if they make some of that headline amount staggered and performance contingent.

Corrected that for you.

Another head scratcher. Nearly 10 million for an unknown quantity.

My guess and it is nothing more but I reckon River Plate and the agents demanded more knowing that time was on their side and not on the buyer's and that EFC knowing that a number 10 buy was out of the question needed at least one signing as a sop to the fans.

not arsed about the fee anyway

everton are padding it out massively, but meh it's not the lads fault.

Going to get fully behind him, he seems a top fella

Good luck Funes

He'll be a cult hero - seems to have the personality Evertonians utterly love, which may disguise any limitations.

See Besic for details.

Well yeah, that's what I meant mate. Spot on.

Maybe I'm being pessimistic but I think this is the clearest sign we're not signing a Yarmolenko-esque player. This is our big money signing....

I think you are mistaken. He (Martinez) was always going to spread the money around the squad.

Plus like I said. What matters is how much of this amount is paid now. Immediately.

If we have sufficient cashflow there is no reason why two others might not come in. Again. With part of their fees staggered/performance contingent.

Its the upfront fees that could hurt us if we end up paying too much and then paying interest plus on a player that is a flop and doesn't perform.

Big fees never help players. There's going to be even more attention on him now and I'm sure the media will be eager to brand him a costly flop.

Hopefully it doesn't bother him though and he can do well. He seems a top lad and I've a soft spot for no nonsense, classy centre backs. Fingers crossed.
