Quite agree .

Of course TV may be wrong , let's hope so , but to just dismiss his views as Aaron does is not a good idea particularly when TV is likely to have seen him play ( a great deal ) and I suspect ATB has only seen him on Youtube
i watched him play 3 full 90 minutes recently mate, but those were on youtube yes.

Also you should take in what else vickery has said, with the likes of the honduran who played for wigan, scocco, rafael being a right winger, paulinho being a successful as lampard and gerrard, and vergini. All of those players he claimed would be successful, but they weren't, so you take what he says and then you look at the other things he has said too.

I will dismiss what he says, especially at first because our manager knows better than he does, as do our scouts, as does the Argentina, and River Plate manager.

Don't you think it'd be more insane to dismiss what all of those people, who work in actual football, two of them at the top level.. and believe someone who has been wrong a lot.. and is just a journo?

But a lot of United fans never thought Cleverley was worth anything, under Sherwood he looked great and also looked to be fitting in nicely with us as well before his injury.

There are so many variables in top of the players innate skill/talent - tactics, confidence, relationship with teammates/manager/fans etc - it is so hard to prejudge anyone.
Imagine If the net had been about when we got the likes of alan harper or gary ablett everybody would have been having a fit wisdom at the time had them down as rubbish and both those turned out more than alright .
just being in a new team or under a diffrent manager can bring a player onto another level.

He may well have been a success in Argentina but that's not the issue is it ?

He must be regarded as a risk ( as many signings are ) and at nearly £10 million a big gamble.

Let's hope it comes off

every signing in world football can be regarded as a risk, let's just trust our manager and team to make sure it was worth it.

Vickery is a little bit of a snide. Didn't he say james Rodriguez would struggle?

The guy is a journo at the end of the day. Not a manager, coach or a scout. Just a snidey journo.

You are 100% right Vickery raved about Alvarez Balanta at River all through 2014 often comparing him to Daniel Passarella. However Marcelo Gallardo the River coach preferred Funes Morí and relegated Vickerys man to the bench. With Funes Morí as left sided center half River have won the Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. It's good for River they have still the Colombian and thirteen million euro but hard on Tim who looks silly comparing a reserve player to the greatest South American center back in history

That is a really important aspect, helps in him settling off pitch but also very useful for a CB as communication is so critical in a backline. Apparently been problems with Arsenal's CB Gabriel as he barely speaks a word of English.
Onto that. Gabriel was quality against Newcastle like but I can't believe how good his English is, better than Ross' I reckon hahaha

from all the hype of balanta, when i watched river vs boca (Funes Mori played on the left) you could tell he had talent but was very erratic.. and his positioning and decision making was quite poor, Balanta seemed to be very hyper and a little all over the place, though Funes Mori was playing left back so it was a little different he seemed a lot more calm and unphased.. until he scored!

Exactly and Tata Martino rates him very highly he's in the squad for the two matches v Mexico and Bolivia so you guys. can see him with Messi and Co.I would say Otamendi will play one match and EL mellizo the other.Hope it goes well for Melli and Everton and if he's given a little time he will do very very well as he is clever with huge ambition
