He has only made one appearance for the senior Argentinian national team. Albeit, he has just been named to the upcoming squad so there is potential for more caps. Still, is anybody concerned about gaining a work permit for him?

Vickery clearly not a fan.

The key problem here is Argentina's lack of defensive pace. The first-choice centre-backs, Ezequiel Garay, Nicolas Otamendi and Martin Demichelis, are not blessed with great speed. Otamendi is the fastest of the three, but many will recall how he was horribly exposed when pushed out to right-back against the Germans in the 2010 World Cup quarterfinal.

There may be some hope on the horizon in the figure of Villareal's Mateo Musacchio, but he has been cruelly hit by injury. Certainly the only newcomer in the Argentina squad, River Plate's Ramiro Funes Mori, would not seem to provide the solution. Argentina's dearth of options in the position is highlighted by the fact that Demichelis has been called up once more. The Manchester City man, 35 in December, had announced that the Copa America would mark his international swan song. Martino has persuaded him to carry on for a while longer. But while Argentina field such slow centre-backs, there is a clear consequence on the performance of Messi.

if we've bothered to agree a fee, sort out a contract and a medical for thursday then i'm positive we'll have worked it out.

It's not like the last minute banega situation it's one we've had planned for a while.

Just gotta trust the club has it sorted.

Looks done and dusted, the River Plate supporters are already saying farewell and good luck on twitter. Everyone needs to give the lad a fair chance, he's clearly been bought a 3rd choice and won't be expected to dislodge Stones or Jagielka any time soon.

I wonder if he'll get here on time to be included in the squad for Sunday or whether he'll be paraded on the pitch? I suspect the latter as an attempt to deflect attention from the next plane protest.

Well they're cheap enough in the back streets of Buenos Aires I've heard..

Everything is cheap in the back streets of Bs As. And the front streets as well. (No joke. Had a bodega owner curse at me for using a 100 peso note to pay for a little bottle of water. 100 pesos is about 5 pounds... and is their largest bill.)

I'm in Rom's rear fo' u

This is also an anagram but may mean nothing

Rom'o'Feu?

How can this possibly go wrong?
