2017/18 Ramiro Funes Mori

What I don’t understand is when he was playing regularly last season, he was very poor. A mistake waiting to happen. If my memory serves me right, he was actually dropped last year before getting injured.

Now he’s been out for a year, suddenly people are clamouring to get him in the side and hailing him as the centre back saviour.

He is a decent defender who just needed to learn that sometimes it was better to put the ball into row Z.

The other thing was, Mori was made a scapegoat by the boo boys, he would make one mistake in a game and was absolutely slated to death even though those other defenders round him would be stinking the place out, but for some reason they didn’t get any flak, it was all Mori’s fault no matter what.

Thinking about it, it was the same for Robles, he would come in, play really well, keep clean sheets, but you just knew there were lads waiting out there for him to make just one mistake, and when he did, they pounced.

You can say the same about Niasse as well i sometimes think it's because all 3 of them are Martinez signings so dont get a fair crack of the whip.

Think people are easily forgetting Holgate when saying Mori is the best centre half at the club. I thought Holgate was superb until Allardyce bizarrely decided to drop him from the team after the Liverpool shenanigans.

Would love to see a Mori/Holgate partnership. A left footed centre half and a right footed centre half playing in their preferred areas of the pitch is always a preference for me as well.

Not sure if Holgate is still injured? But I guess we wouldn’t get to see that partnership anyway. Jags and Keane seem certain starters and to be fair, since they’ve had a run of games together we’ve looked solid and are keeping clean sheets so can’t really complain too much.

It's great to have Ramiro back fighting fit.

If only because it means Ashley Williams is now our fifth-best central defender, hopefully he'll see the writing on the wall and head back to Swansea over the summer.
