Perhaps, but always felt his errors could have been reduced/mitigated as the errors he makes occur when he is trying to be someone he isn't. Plenty of other CBs make errors, because they just aren't any good, errors you live with. Play him alongside a ball playing CB, and tell him to keep it simple, not try Mascherano type passes and he'll be fine.I think the enforced absence has made us forget how error prone he is. e; Can't really think of a CB, from a club lower in the league who I would rather have. That includes Maguire and Mawson. On that alone, at the very least he should be kept, even if I am proven wrong and he turns out to be at best, a squad player.

Passing out of defence are the obvious ones he does. But he also frequently
- Goes for and misses interceptions
- Totally miskicks clearances
- Gets wrong side of players due to ball watching.
Every defender makes gaffs. This lad probably makes an average of 5/6 a game which is a lot. But amazingly we never seem to concede goals from them somehow.
It's a shame really because I do like him as a player if he could eradicate these silly mistakes from his game.

Yeah from memory Funes was a bit shaky on the ball when he tried to overplay but was defensively solid, both in the air and in the tackle.
Aggressively attacking balls into the box and lofted at you which is what you want.

I think in extension of the errors you've mentioned that he is susceptible to make, the biggest issue is he tries too hard. And the best way to fix, is drilling it into him that he must keep it simple.
Barcelona, and some of the better Italian clubs weren't sniffing around for no reason.

100% but he's the only left sided centre back we have bar am ageing Jags.
On the right I would take Holgate over keane.
