We have been fortunate with our keepers……
We have had some shockers too - Big money David Lawson {when a certain Peter Shilton was available - - Jim McDonough, the smallest keeper I have ever seen - Richard Wright DM first signing - a calamity of a keeper - fell out of his loft - then in a warm-up could not read a warning sign on the pitch & sprained his ankle before kick off ....

The numbers back up what I thought in terms of high claims and catches. Pickford is the better goalkeeper in terms of shot stopping, but does his lack of command of his box cause the ball to stay in and around the danger area longer, leading to a goal being conceded more often?

It is fairly obvious that the way Dyche sets up to defend corners and free kicks with everyone back, would suit a keeper like Pope more than it does Pickford. As he gets older it would be good to see him trying to improve this side if his game, as he should be able to do better despite his size. Southall wasn't afraid to mix it up with the opposition and clear out everything to get to the ball, the 95 cup final being a case in point. How much more pressure would we have been under had he not claimed a few of those high balls towards the end of the match and could we have let utd equalise if he hadn't?
