driving to this one.
anyone know how much the the tolls will cost on the roads from calais to bern?
and does it cost to enter switzerland?
Go on via Michelin this will tell you all routes , tolls and average cost of fuel anyway says it will take 8 hrs 37 mins from Calais cost £26.38 in tolls £73.50 in petrol and £25.83 in Swiss road tax ie vignette

True, but this day was the worst day for years, because of accidents and rough weather...I myself also missed the first half because of this miserable traffic, but usually Basel-Bern or Zürich-Bern by car should not take longer than 90min.

Cheers. Good to know that was a one off.
My mate, from Naples, also got a speeding ticket on the way back to Basel for going 106 in a 100 zone!

No tolerance there then, how much did you pay?
Got blitzed near Hannover last month,102km in a 70 zone,60€ fine, not bad

It really depends if anyone is manning the border crossing, depends where you cross, Basle/Muhlhausen crossing is permanently manned and they will always insist on you buying the sticker, if you cross elsewhere you may be lucky but if for any reason you are stopped on the motorway whether because of speeding, breakdown or accident and you don't have the sticker you will get a massive fine.

The actual fine for not having the 40-Francs-Sticker (35 Euros) is currently 100 CHF plus of course the sticker. If you pass the border on a motorway, you will be controlled. If you leave the motorway before Basel and cross the border on a regular road, they will not ask you for the sticker, because the sticker is really and only to cover the charge of the motorway. If you have enough time, you can even drive Basel-Bern (approx 60Mi) on regular roads, which will take you 2 hours instead of one, but you can save the money.

Yes, Germany is quite cheap, when it comes to speeding-fines - at least compared to Switzerland. Here the speeding fines start at €100 and can add up to several ten-thousand francs. Normal speed limit on motorways is 120 km/h, if you're getting caught with 160+ km/h you will be fined depending on your income, which can be really high. If you're faster than 180 km/h they're even allowed to confiscate your car.

--> You better drive carefully in Switzerland!

Definitely - no worries about having a beer in the ground though.

it is more than ok. but i won't hear you whining about the prices in switzerland cause you were warned about that pub.

are you guys like ze germans?...they're always heading for the next bratwurst stand and just try out the things they know.

btw. the pub is also the home of many mancunian expats. welcome home :)
naughtyyoungboy, I'm staying round the corner from Mr.Pickwicks, anywhere near there (cheaper :)) you'd recommend ?. Cheers.

Whats the booze and ciggies situation travelling to/from Switzerland, them being in a funny relationship with the EU?

any place is cheaper. it's a lovely pub though.

if you are a beer afficionado, then head for the altes tramdepot. its a micro brewery and their märzen beer is just perfect.
if you just want to get drunk, any place will do just fine.

Am all over this place looks like Ernst Brahaus from Hannover that was a micro brewery and was top draw

The altes tramdepot sounds worth a visit, thank you.I'd like to see Bern rather than just get drunk.
