reality check

Reality check. James and allan are nearing 30. Their best days are now, not in two years time.

Reality check, if we don't achieve anything this season then Richarlison and Digne possibly calvert lewin will be looking to leave the club this summer.

Reality check, despite a good start to the season mainly as a result of feel good factor of big name signings. The team has got progressively worse and looks increasingly bad at the back game by game.

Reality check, the likelihood of the squad being better next season than it is this season is very unlikely considering all of the above and also bearing in mind our recent annual losses and possible financial fair play sanctions.

This year was the year for us to perform. The squad was there it seemed, the quality was there. But the tactics and motivation have been second rate and second best whenever any questions have been asked.
Sadly all the above is correct and I have to lay the blame with Carlo.

Pickford in goal.
Sigurdson as a starter and captain.
Gordon not even making the squad.
Niels not even making the squad.
Iwobi as a left wing back and Tom as a right wing back.

Not exactly sure why he made those decisions; 4 points out the last 18 is relegation form and the team is looking more and more poor every week.

Saints look to be just as good as Everton, truth be told and they spent about £5 on players - Everton need a complete overhaul from head to toe next summer - all the deadwood just has to go, the players loaned out need to be either sold or have contracts scrapped - the 'project' needs to start again. Liverpool are just miles ahead of things and that is what no Evertonian wants to say

Spot on, I have said a few times that Lewin and Rich will leave - possibly next summer so its imperative that Everton have a good season and finish in Europe - this is the blueprint Carlo is trying to achieve but It looks a very long shot now.

What is Carlo seeing in Bernard, Delph and Sigs. Has he different vision than me? He is not immune to criticism because ultimately its his job that is on the line, just like the 5 odd managers that melted in the Everton hot seat before. Simply put if he continues to persist with using deadwood in match day squads he will be sacked sooner rather than later

Reality check - out of the 4 points you made, 3 of them are predictions.

You have to find someone to sell to - unlikely given the money some are on.
To cancel contracts you have to settle them - even more unlikely given the money some are on. That'd entail sacrificing a summer or two worth of spending to pay players up.

It's a spell of poor form that has shown work needs doing but it's not a sign that there are new and unique problems but rather the existing problems of poor squad depth still need to be further addressed. Every squad in the PL has deadwood around the edges - we just need to continue buying and selling when the opportunities are there.

The instant reset where all unwanted players instantly walk out of the exit doesn't exist.

Anyone who thinks we've already had a reality check is in for a serious shock in December.

5th Burnley (A)
12th Chelsea (H)
15th Leicester (A)
19th Arsenal (H)
23rd Man Utd (H) - League Cup
26th Sheffield Utd (A)
28th Man City (H)

Out of those 7 games I only see 2 of them as winnable based on the performances over our last few games. Winning away at Burnley & Sheffield United is going to be absolutely critical.
Who knows, maybe we'll raise our game for the so called better teams and pull off a couple of shock results but given our history over the last 20 years against the 'big 6' I really don't see December being a good month. I'm tempted to give football a miss until the new year.
