reality check

Doesn’t matter what they are doing or how well we are playing.

Last season their reserve team knocked us out.

And this downward spiral all started with the RS.

We had a 100% record, they were coming off a seven goal defeat.

A great opportunity to whack them....but oh, no. Not us.

We go a goal down inside a couple of minutes, pick up injuries, suspensions and bad publicity which all combined to shatter our early season optimism.

So, no...if we draw them tomorrow night I would say our season once more will finish in January (because I can’t see us beating United in the Caribou Cup either :().
I didn't say everything was rosy, but how many other clubs are unbeaten in their last two matches against them?

Anyone who thinks we've already had a reality check is in for a serious shock in December.

5th Burnley (A)
12th Chelsea (H)
15th Leicester (A)
19th Arsenal (H)
23rd Man Utd (H) - League Cup
26th Sheffield Utd (A)
28th Man City (H)

Out of those 7 games I only see 2 of them as winnable based on the performances over our last few games. Winning away at Burnley & Sheffield United is going to be absolutely critical.
Who knows, maybe we'll raise our game for the so called better teams and pull off a couple of shock results but given our history over the last 20 years against the 'big 6' I really don't see December being a good month. I'm tempted to give football a miss until the new year.

At best there’s 10 points there but realistically the two easiest ones we ain’t going to win both. You just know we won’t so I’m thinking 7 points max. Be surprised if we do better than that. Chelsea, Leicester and City will destroy our defence at moment. Be pure carnage.

Looking back over the years, we usually do better when we have a hard run of games than when we've done poorly against teams we were expected to beat.

I'm not having a dig at Carlo, but I wonder where we'd be now if Moshiri had come in when Moyes was manager? And don't point to his time at Man Utd.

It's like comparing plums to grapes.

Is pretty incredible that we were actually a better side with far less money.

It certainly seems that way sometimes doesn't it? We had several strong seasons under Moyes which seemed to be built on team spirit and determination.

However, I think what really allowed Moyes to be 'relatively' successful was the time he was afforded and the stability the team had. He got players who suited his style was able to move on the ones that didn't.

If we allow Anchelloti time and finally bring stability to the team we will see success.

Stick with them we will come good. It will take time
I agree.

That and continuous strengthening of the squad like we did in Summer.

I really think that the only players who are of suitable quality are: Richarlison, James, Allen, Digne, Coleman, and maybe DCL, and Doucoure. Of the others, I think are central defenders Keane, Mina, Godfrey and Holgate are all adequate but need a certain something alongside them (maybe a fit Holgate and/ or a decent keeper behind them). That's 7 good players, and a couple of others that might step up but not every game. That's ok, but as soon as there are injuries to that top level of player, then there's nothing there and teams can nullify what is left.

Ancelotti still has a lot to do...

Not for nothing but we brought in James and Allan to get immediate success, not "stability". By the time we have "stability" with Ancelotti those two will, most likely, be gone.

We need to sort the defence and bring in a couple of players to improve the team in Jan. RB and CM, another wide forward would also be good.

If we can do that then I think we can still achieve Europe this year with a bit of luck. It’s our inability to keep clean sheets that has been killing us recently. But the table is still wide open. It’ll be picking up points in the upcoming run of fixtures without Digne that is a huge challenge.

Frustrating isn't it? I'm really trying to be positive but sometimes I think you could put 1970 Brazil in Everton shirts and they'd all turn rubbish after 3 games!

Stability and some absolutely brilliant recruitment. Some of Moyes's buys were outrageous value.
