Hi all,

Has anyone been through redundancy before? I am in a team of 5 that they need to cut down to a team of 3. They have said they want 2 people to take voluntary redundancy or we have to start a desktop screen process next week. Basically got told today. People have until tomorrow to tell the company if they are willing to take voluntary redundancy. If not they will score us via some matrix and let us know on Monday who is for the chop. We will be gone on 30th of November. It all seems abit rushed. Is this normal and ok process? Nobody in the team had an inkling this would be happening. Also our manager is getting the hook and he was unaware.

I’m not apart of a union and only have a months notice to give so does that mean am fooked?

Might need to set up a gofundme page to solve my Bucky and tennants needs @COYBL25

So there's 3 out of 6 going? 2 team, 1 'boss'? What are the terms for voluntary vs enforced? Also, Aren't they required to announce this with more time due? And if any other positions within the company can be found etc? We've a couple on the board much more clued up on employment and legalese, have helped out in the depression thread where people have shouted up. @anjelikaferrett iirc?

@anjelikaferrett is good on this stuff mate.

It all seems very rushed ?

Think it depends on your sector and your organisations HR policies.

I'm assuming voluntary redundancy comes with an enhanced severence sweetener?

I've not been through it, but my old manager took voluntary severance and got a large payout. Voluntary requests usually happen well in advance of enforced redundancies too. But, my sector is reasonably unionised and organisations have very specific processes to go through.

Here might be a good starting point on rights etc: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/work/redundancy/check-your-rights-if-youre-made-redundant/

I believe they will look to move us elsewhere within the business if we are the unlucky ones. But that’s not a guarantee.

Basically said they are restructuring due to not enough work streams pish. The boss has been told he’s up for redundancy and fighting for no job. I.e he’s a goner.

Basically leaves 5 of us fighting over 3 jobs. 4 of us are real good mates. 1 is an older bloke who’s been off this week for cancer treatment. The fookers called him on the phone to tell him instead of waiting until he’s back on Monday.

All very unsavoury.

Place i worked in before went through restructuring. We were only a team of 4 and 1 of us would be getting a promotion and 1 would be getting let go.

I was the only one eligible for the promotion so i got that role, but the other 3 made a counter proposal to keep everyone on but they all reduced their core hours.

Was a good solution compared to someone losing their job.

That is outrageous!

I was told by a friend that taking voluntary redundancy is better than being forced on redundancy. Might be something I look into. Just not got a lot of time which is the thing that is oissing me off

Yeah, they really should detail the package on offer. How on earth are you expected to decide other than hoping someone thinks "f this, I hate them anyway ill take my chances".

Which if they are, we'll, it's naughty.

How do you get on with the rest of the team? Is the 'boss' being let go in the mix for one of the three remaining team jobs? The speed and lack of detail of this is screaming something vastly underhand happening.
