if you have spent the money we have, avoiding terminal decline culminating in successive relegation battles is pretty much a certainty, if you are well governed.

We havent spent that much, certainly in the last 2 years, but I do get your point.

Our issue is that we are 1 of 6 ever presents in the PL, and enough revenue from this to be where the other 5 are, which is with no real chance of relegation. We have messed up on that huge opportunity over a 30 year period.

There's a big reckoning on the way. But we need to remain in the top flight. The 'blood-letting' to come can only be safely done without destroying the whole organisation from the top flight. Top flight status means we'll attract different - hopefully better - owners to come in after the pitchforking is done. If we fall into the Championship we'll unravel and the pitchforking will be followed by even bigger clowns who'll own and control this club.

There's always been a wrong and right way to go about that defenestration. That's always been my believe. I have no axe to grind for the current owners or his board.
Agreed. We are being sold either way and I’d rather that is in Premier league than in the financial vortex of relegation,

Not a hater at all, don't have any problem with Everton in fact went to Goodison a few times in the 90s when I studied in Liverpool. Just facts are, with football the way it is, you've not been competitive for a long time, and won't be until you're bought out by the next Sheikh to come around.

Theres no reason why Everton couldnt be better run, to compete at the top end mate. It wouldnt necessarily need a Sheikh. And if Leeds stay up, it would be quite similar. The ground will definitely help us.

Without a Sheikh its probably difficult to replicate City, but with better recruitment either could be where Brighton are IMO.

Exactly this. Limited expenditure would get us to the sweet spot of mid table with ambition.

The talk about pressure on our players seems to be ignoring the fact that there is far more pressure on Leicester and Leeds who both simply have to win.

It's a big ask for both of them, regardless of what we do.

I'm surprised to find myself quite optimistic about our chances on Sunday, in truth there were times earlier this season that I never believed our fate would still be in our hands on this last day.
There's pressure on all 3 teams. It will be a difficult game for us but if our players can handle the pressure, we have a good chance.

And honestly, we could be a top 6 team without too big a stretch. We were regular in the top 6 for 7 or 8 years recently.
Have you seen the line-up of chancers and spivs and half cut jesters that've managed us since? It's been a roulette of ever worsening detritus. Dyche aint no modern miracle but appears at least a significant improvement. Although not a difficult differentiation, at least something like a step in a positive direction.

Crumb of comfort..

We are third best for expected goals from set pieces since Dyche came in.

Bournemouth are 19th worst for expected goals conceded at set pieces since Oneill came in.

That isn't a crumb of comfort, that will be a very big discussion within Dyches team talk and he'll be hammering home hiw we can take advantage of that particular stat.

Well yes quite.
Suspect Maupay therefore plays to try and be a nuisance, win some fouls.
