If we have having a run of the mill mid-table season I'd back us for a point tonight.

Worse sides than this, Everton and otherwise have gone there and done it.

But their "crisis" is more worthy of favourable officiating than ours, particularly at the pit.

I think tonight will be on similar lines to the last derby there, it will be tight enough but they'll nick it, with help if needed.

If we could get a point it would be massive under these circumstances.

It's important we don't fall to a heavy defeat, which would largely undo the positivity built up since Arsenal.
This just wreaks of a penalty given to the RS in the 80’ +.

I’m hoping for a win obviously but it will be interesting to see how this place reacts if we lose. I fully expect a catastrophic meltdown from many of you until we beat Leeds Saturday.
Depends how we lose…we need to keep the levels from arsenal and away from goodison. If we can do that tonight and put in a performance then you’d be pretty confident we can string enough wins together. The season won’t be defined by tonight’s result.

Let’s be honest, history suggests that we won’t win tonight due to either a random act of var/a goal in the 10th minute of injury time / an Alison gk being diverted into our net off Darwin Nunez’s left testicle…

People need to stay calm, there’s plenty of games left, there’s going to be games we don’t pick up points, there’s going to be games we get points in fixtures we don’t expect and then games we lose points against opposition we hoped to beat. There’s still a lot of points to play for and the Arsenal game just showed that we can’t really predict any fixture.

There’s just no point having a meltdown after every game we don’t win and then other people saying ‘this team won’t go down’ after every time we win.

The entire bottom half of the table up to and including Palace are going to be in a battle for the rest of the season. None are good enough to move fully away, all of them are bad enough to lose a run of games and get right back into trouble.

We just need to keep picking up points, avoiding defeats, and let other teams bury themselves with long winless runs (as Southampton Bournemouth and Leeds have started doing)
That's it.

Last season we were 18th with 5 games to go and Burnley looking like they'd for sure got their act together to keep us there.

A defeat tonight in the context of not much movement this weekend with S'ton, B'mouth, West Ham and Leeds is not a major development. As you say, these clubs and a couple above them are not going to sprout wings and leave this relegation fight any time soon. Dyche should offer us balance in that respect.

I was really confident about avoiding relegation when the merchants of doom @TheBigIguana and @davek had us down without hope. You could count on one hand the times them 2 fellers got anything right but with Daves new found positivity I'm beginning to fear the inevitable.

I love these posts because people remember thinking I'm an idiot and then forget when, for example, a year later I was actually right about Lampard all along.
