Obviously it's not great right now, but I think the point stands that the hysteria was way OTT during the winter. Some people accusing the manager of losing the plot were really losing it themselves.

I think we've all learned a lesson this season.

I would hope so. He's had a disaster this year without a doubt, but we're one of the few clubs who practice what they preach about "giving time" to players and managers, and it would have been a shame to sacrifice that to play managerial lotteries every year and a half. I'm positive he sees the problem with regards to our average age profile and I'm sure it will be addressed in the summer. If we're still crap by December, I'll gladly light my stick and get witch-hunting.

I dont think there's any excuse next season. My position in defending him has been on the bedrock of this EL programme depleting our performances in the PL and the fact he didn't get the summer window right.

Those two are off the table next season: he must deal in some fashion with pressing positional needs in the window; and he has no excuse for slack performances with one game per week for most of next season.

Anyone who thinks we're too good to go down shouldn't be too overconfident of safety. Newcastle a few years ago were too good to go down. Villa as many troubles they have still on paper have a squad too good to go down but look where they are now.

Its utter insanity, to play the same way we have been for 8 months and expect different result every time. All those who said Barkley wouldn't be on the wing just cos the formation says so were wrong. Every time I saw Barkley today vs Arsenal he was on the left and out of ideas. No wonder he's scored just once this season. We have a midfield trio who all wanna make sure they break the play up but none of them can go forward to support the attack and score...let alone pass!

Our keeper is a joke, our 28M striker has 0 balance on the ball and is a poacher at best. We constantly change the teams for one reason or another yet expect the chemistry to be superb and work wonders. Just survive FFS!

FYI the 2012/13 season Martinez took Wigan down after 27 games that season Wigan had 24 points.

What is the point of that? Last season we were 5th/6th, this season we are 14th at the moment.

Are you suggesting we will get similar results? We win 2 league games since 22 November 2014 for god sake.

I'm not sure our current team and manager can beat anyone in the league, we will not get 40 points, luckily neither will 4 or 5 teams. It we be down to how many draws we can pick up.

To rely on teams that are sh1ter than us for staying up in PL. This is Everton how come the standard of expectation becoming this low?

Who are we kidding saying there are too many poor teams...just look at the league form and all round stats...facts dont lie.
Plus, are we really ready for a real dogfight, for a total grind with all blood, sweat and grit...doesnt bode well with our current fancy philosophy. Will be lucky if we get draws with all teams below us...or I forgot we already watching Napoli tapes...

If Villa win tonight I can see them overtaking us with a couple of wins. Hull could go either way. Burnley and Leicester will finish in the bottom two. It will be between us, QPR and Hull. We have the best team of the three but the worst manager. We are in the middle of the relegation dog fight. If we stay up what is going to happen in the transfer window. We are bound to loose some of our better players. I agree that Martinez worked wonders last year but he has to be judged on where we are at the start of next season compared to where we where when he took over. He has failed.
