If it goes to sunday the fixture list is a shocker for Everton and Burnley as opposed to leeds. Both will be playing 72 hours later and possibly out on their feet while leeds have had a full 7 days rest. Could be a big factor if sunday comes into play.

we said that after playing burnley on a thursday and we beat utd at 12pm saturday.
i think if it goes to sunday the players have only themselves to blame!

If you look at how the season went after Burnley away it's been one where we recovered to a point that we were back in command of the situation again. That's still the case. It's not ideal, and it feels like we saw a massive chance to get free of this disappear on the Sunday just gone, but our opponents at the bottom didn't make any decisive moves themselves.

If we cant win tonight but keep Burnley and Leeds needing a win then you have to ask what the odds are that they both get wins against decent opponents. Ok, we go to Arsenal final day, but neither Burnley or Leeds are entertaining Watford or Norwich - the only games that have some *guarantee* of points.

It's a terrible position to be in, but the reason we're still massive outsiders to get relegated isn't too difficult to understand.
I accept what you are saying, Dave, and it's very even-handed, but I am not only terrified of the prospect of needing our wasters to get a point at Arsenal, but also of relying on being bailed out by Brentford and Newcastle United. I made my mind up about our season a while back and that was that if we were not safe by Thursday night, May 19, we will be dropping into the Championship. This team finds a way to let you down. Sunday will be epic if we do the expected tonight and fall short once more.

All of these factors come in to play if we allow ourselves to enter the margin of error that is Sunday. We can cry all the salty tears we like if it all goes pear-shaped then, but we have nobody but ourselves to blame.

Dont worry i know you are chomping at the bit to lay into lampard if it happens.

That's a pretty uncharitable comment, to be honest. I think there are far bigger culprits than him if we go down - the players, the board, the previous manager. There are plenty more to lay into first - and I've been doing that for most of the season. One thing I would say is I won't be going out of my way to campaign for anybody associated with any relegation we suffer. They can all go as far as I am concerned: board, players, coaching staff. I think it could go either way with Lampard right now. I hope he earns cred by keeping us up. But I don't think he should be rewarded for failure and I don't think he will have the credibility to rebuild us if his name is on the relegation. Taking us down is failure. It's not something I want to think about right now. I hope he has guaranteed our future and his own with a victory tonight.

What I wouldn’t give to be sat in 12th at the moment having nothing to play for in these last two games!

"They must think you're Lord God almighty threatening you with relegation, what I wouldn't give to be threatened with relegation just for one season!

Terrific organisation the Premier League, terrific."
